I buy most of my Kindle books from Amazon.  Everyman sells some Kindle and ePub books directly.  Calibre is a useful Window program for converting things to Kindle form if you ever need to.  Gambit also has an IOS and Android app.  The IOS version which I have used is pretty good.

I have a hard copy the Endgame book and work on the examples at home with a physical board or playing against a program.  I do have a lot of chess books on my Kindle Paperwhite.  What I tend to do that works well is to read the text on the Kindle and where necessary use my smartphone (iPhone 6 Plus) to play through the games.  As an aside, there are a few publishers such as Gambit that seem really committed to making the Kindle and ePub formats work for tactics and concrete endings etc. by putting the answers to diagrams on the next page in the Kindle file.  Everyman could do this with the MTM series . . . not sure how much work this would require . . . but they haven't bothered.

Can we buy kindle books from Gambit online? Or any other publishing company? Sorry not advertising, I have a new kindle and want to put some chess stuff on it  Smiley

I just noticed that Everyman Chess is now releasing some books in Kindle format. Oddly enough Amazon is selling the Kindle versions for more than the dead tree versions.

Hi all,
ipad 2 smart cover
iPad2case
leather ipad 2 covers

I am planning on getting a kindle or some sort of e book reader.  I am dislexic so I need it to also read to me.  Does anyone have a Kindle, NOOK or other reader? How do you like it?  I know Nook has a chess program and I beat it rather easily so its not that strong!!!
Thanks,
Zatara

I've heard that the Kindle only lets you use Wikipedia and maybe one or two other sites for free with the 3G access.

There's a chess program out for the Kindle now. It's really bare bones, and doesn't even include an opening book, but it's something. It doesn't play too badly once it gets out of the opening, good enough for a quick game against a club player like me.

I've often wondered, if I had to add at least a couple of book moves to a chess program that didn't have any book programmed, if for the first two moves for White, you couldn't do better than 1. d4 and 2. Nf3, and for Black 1...c6 and 2...d5

I don't know about the availability of various chess books on Kindle vs. Nook and such.  But be advised, ebooks for Kindles are in Amazon's proprietary format, as opposed to almost all other eReaders, including the Nook, which supports the ePub standard.  So ebooks for Kindle won't be readable on other devices, but ebooks for Nook will likely be readable on most other devices besides Kindle.

Yes, Dvorestsky's books are published by Rusell. Have you gotten yours yet?

I just bought myself a Kindle. I should have it in my possession next week. Browsing on Amazon, I noticed that Rusell Enterprises has a lot of their chess book in Kindle format. The difference on the list price is not significant. But since I pay a significant amount for shipping regular books, the difference would amount to significant savings to me. And I do like the feature that my ebooks can be accessed on my PC and my blackberry.

Unfortunately, Russell seems to be the only major publisher using it. I do hope more would come on board. Alas....not a big deal any, since I did not buy it for chess purposes. However, Russell is a US publisher, whereas all of the other publishers are based in the UK and Europe, where Kindle is not big yet.

The thing I noticed about Kindle books is that anybody can self-publish their own book on amazon. This is interesting because it effectively cuts out the middleman (the publisher). So in the future we can all publish our own thoughts of wisdom, or even chess analysis  Wink

I found this in a review of one of these:

"Please understand before purchasing any books from this series that the author has simply filled the pages with pictures of chess boards illustrating games that are freely available on the internet. Check out the preview before purchase."

Shocked Shocked Shocked

I downloaded a sample of one to my Kindle and was really surprised that that's all it was, photos of a chess board. I could see doing a nice diagram for each move in an opening with some explanatory text, but not photos.
