OK then. One of the white Knights might be Rutger Hauer, because of the Dutch TV-series Floris.

The Black Queen has to be Aretha Franklin, she's the Queen of Soul.

One of the White Knights should be Mikhail Baryshnikov.

White king = Elvis or MJ
Black king = Johnny Cash or MJ
White queen = Angelina Jolie or Catherine Deneuve
Black queen = Paris Hilton or Freddy Mercury
Black king's rook = Arnold Schwarzenegger
Black king's knight = Batman
Black king's bishop = Darth Vader
Black queen's bishop = Orson Welles
Black queen's knight = Ritchie Blackmore or John Cleese
White d-pawn = Clint Eastwood
Black d-pawn = Denzil

That's half of Black's pieces.

Maybe we will only make the black pieces celebrities, and the white pieces will be the paparazzi?

Orson Welles as the other Black Bishop - he played Cesare Borgia once.
Ritchie Blackmore as the other Black Knight

There's room for both Hollywood and Rock boards.
In Rock Blackmore could be joined by Iommi as Black Knights... led by B.B. King, of course !
Maybe Mercury should be white and let Aretha Franklin or Rob Halford step in for Black ?

Catherine Deneuve should indeed be white royalty, but Lady Gaga is an interesting alternative. Perhaps she could be the White King's fou?

You mean the black d-pawn, right? In that case, if Delroy leads the charge, Denzil can follow suit. [/quote]

Unfortunately, that's probably too local. The series may be well known in Britain but as far as I can recall it didn't air in for example Sweden or Denmark - though I've seen a few brilliant cuts from it on youtube (Batman & Robin, the Chandelier, Falling through the bar).

Still, you could have one of the F-pawns after Detective Frost if that okay? :)

Orson Welles as the other Black Bishop - he played Cesare Borgia once.
Ritchie Blackmore as the other Black Knight - his nickname is the Man in Black (yeah, I know there are more of them) and he composed Black Night (formulated otherwise: he stole the riff).

Schwarzenegger as black rook looks good. Let's add, to his right, batman as "dark knight" and darth vader (sort of a leader of the evil clergy in Star Wars) as king's bishop.

With a name like Schwarzenegger, he should be Black. If there ever was a human who was built of granite, it would be Arnold, so let's make him a manly Black King's Rook.

White's h-pawn should be named 'Harry'.

Clint Eastwood should impersonate this pawn.

And b2 for Bronson?

On playchess a few years ago, I played against "Arnold Schwarzenegger" - don't know if it was the real thing, but he does play chess and is a friend of Kasparov's, iirc chessbase had a feature about that some years back.

Is it "a2" for Arnold, or maybe he should be a rook?

Really? What are their handles?

That's confidential information.  Wink

Regarding the naming of the pieces, I think White's d-pawn should be named 'Delroy', and White's h-pawn should be named 'Harry'. In one Grunfeld variation Harry can harry the king while Delroy takes the charge.
