Okay,
I am going to put some spin into the book recommendation request because I have decided that 1.Books tend to clutter my shelves and 2.I prefer seeing the lines in chessbase ebooks, so I found two that seem promising, but I am definitely open to others:
Fighting the Anti-King's Indians and Play the Grunfeld both by Yelena Dembo and Everyman.

Everyman's books are usually available as chessbase ebooks and both mentioned here are ebook available.  Anyone know of any publishers aside from Everyman that publish in Chessbase ebook?

Okay, I feel like a noob, but what is TMB?  The only thing about KID is white is not obliged to play 2.c4 when black, if he carries through with typical KID play, may end up in the Pirc or something else entirely.  Should I pair the Pirc and KID together as a system against 1.d4?

Kasparov's opening book.  Grin

On a more serious note, I recommend you learn the QGD as Black, based on the TMB. In my view, you should know how to play the QGD as either White or Black before learning a different defence to 1.d4. You'll face a lot of Exchange Variations, against which you can either play the main line or experiment with an early ...Bb4 or ...Bg4.

All our dreams come true if we have the courage to pursue them.

Do you like the Grünfeld? Avrukh's GM Repertoire book will be released soon.

In that case you could start with an intro book (for example Rowson's old book, or maybe there's something newer) which explains the plans and then use Avrukh to bring you up-to-date.

Fluffy's two King's Indian books are an alternative (haven't seen the yet). Or his excellent Play the Semi-Slav (needs an update due to age).
The other KI book, by Bologan, is also great. It's a year or two older though, but I like his writing style a lot.

edit: In all cases you'll need another book for garbage collection (white avoids c4). Wink

I know this is probably opening a can of worms, but I really have no real repertoire against it.  I tend to play the sicilian against 1.e4 and play 1.c4 as white, but my understanding of 1.d4 seems a bit low.

Any suggestions are appreciated.
