Says the guy with a French sounding alias...  Grin

Btw, am I the only one to associate this with this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QlBTOAqHhk

Maybe, as an extra penalty they could be required to always wear a t-shirt with the text of the chorus. Smiley

This should really be a case of a life ban I think. 3 years is far too soft on them.

FIDE has just announced that Feller, Hauchard and Marzolo will be suspended for about 3 years each.

Here's a link to the story:

..... I've seen in the papers this year .....

Surinamese paper De Ware Tijd (True Times) always covers Surinamese chess. But I guess that doesn't count as a major news story.

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

Incidentally, the only other major news story about chess that I've seen in the papers this year was about Libyan leader Kadafi playing a game with Ilyumzhinov. Roll Eyes

I was speaking with a French player today about the scandal, and he mentioned that making a Google search for 'Chess' and 'France' brings page after page of links about cheating and scandal! Shocked
I've just had a go and he seems to be right! Sad
Well, I suppose it is one way to get publicity for the game! Undecided

Yes, indeed, 2000 Francs are much money here in Bulgaria.. But I don't even want to know his name. Shame on him!
Edit: And I hope he isn't a friend of mine!  Sad

I don't know GM Spraggett, but it's the GM rather than the FM who comes off worse here.

I know Kevin very well, and he is a nice, sincere guy.
These cases of players throwing games occur all the time and are very difficult to prove. Many years ago I complained to the organisers that a last round game was being thrown in a French tournament by a Bulgarian IM, costing me around 1000 Francs at the time. The organisers did nothing, but at the prize-giving the IM apologised to me and said that he had been offered 2000 Francs and simply couldn't refuse ... as it was enough money to live for a whole year in Bulgaria! Unbelievable: After the verdict of a French court Sebastien Feller will participate in the FIDE World Cup (26th August to 21th September in Khanty-Mansiysk). French cheating case: sanctions suspended, Feller and Hauchard can play again

Presumably he had also been cheating in his previous games?

Maybe " it was very stupid of him to CONTINUE to do it in the final round, because he had already scored his IM norm after the penultimate round" would be a more acurate way to describe the situation.

I think once caught cheating red-handed like that you have to presume he was cheating in all the games. Should be hounded out of the game the German young lad, at least he has a career in law it seems.

Yeah, that was my first thought. Once he's been busted, how can you trust his previous games? That's why I'd think stripping of ALL titles would be appropriate in this type of scenario.

Plotkin's version doesn't sound unbelievable to me: http://www.chesstalk.info/forum/showthread.php?t=5117

Nor to me. As someone who used to read Spraggett's blog before I got fed up with him and it, I'm inclined to believe that he is overreacting here.
