Search the players pockets? Not only this seems silly to me because someone who wants to cheat can use a third guy to give him signals, but above all it gives a very bad image of chess and it shows that the supposed inteligent organization of a sport of people who like to think cannot find a better way. In a well organized sport, not belong to the players to create rules. That must belong to an organization who knows how to think about chess, but unfortunately it´s not the case with FIDE until today.
Quote:“no electronic devices can be brought into the playing hall”
This is ok and should be taken long time ago almost in the beginning, but of course FIDE was sleeping...
Quote:“electronic boards can be unplugged if one of the players demands it”.
Oh yes and then, we at home loose the games. Another great popular propaganda for chess!
I guess Topalov will demand to swich off all boards because is boss defends the copyright of chess moves...
When will come the day where chess will be an organized sport with a transparent organization?
Some sweeping demands, but I doubt it would be legal for the arbiters to search people's pockets and belongings.
Banning all electronic devices - hmm, what about, for example: cameras, mp3-players, hearing-aids and pacemakers? Would having any of those on your person justify losing the game as with a ringing cell phone?
OTB tournament will probably become more and more of blitz and speed-chess - and for serious top tournaments it would probably be more entertaining and easier to interest TV, if the participants played best of say 10-15 blitz games, as in snooker.
Why would one game for 6-8 hours still be better nowadays than 15 blitz games in 3-4 hours? There are already "long" games being played where one side only uses a few minutes for the whole game...
