Well Bezgodov is a GM who was dedicated enough to write a whole book about the thing and get it published so....

Doubt he managed to prove anything that convincing of course, but whether or not he did it has to be much the best extant source.

1.e4 c5 2.a3 proves that white can play just about anything that doesn't lose a piece by force on move 2 and not lose.

If your goal is to prove that 2.a3 is "playable" in the sense that it doesn't lose, you can probably do it by analysing a bunch of 5-move variations that don't lose.

If your goal is somehow to suggest that White actually gets an advantage, good luck. Stefan Buecker recently tried to show some minimal edge after 2.a4. If you want to try to prove 2.a3 gives white an advantage you will need to even more work than Stefan did. And although Stefan came up with some interesting ideas I don't think he succeeded.

I doubt anyone less dedicated and talented than Stefan could succeed with 2.a3.
