I've studied several of the "Gambit Guide" episodes by Alterman on ICC. Alterman discusses the history of the opening and studies key games in great depth. 

I love his videos but I do have major reservation: in all of the series that I've studied, I feel that he has left out a critical element. He doesn't go the final step of suggesting new ways to play the position. 

I haven't seen his book, but I do wonder how many original ideas he shares with the reader. Does he seem to hold back in the book too?

My copy arrived yesterday, I have not had the time to look at it yet, I have hardly time for any chess at the moment except some posts at this forum.

The Vaganian Gambit is indeed the same line as the Kasparov Gambit.

The last time I saw this analysed, it was called the Kasparov gambit (Play the Benko, I think)

Never heard about it either, but judging by the chapter content, 1.Benko 2.Blumenfeld 3.Vaganian 4. 1.d4 Nf6 2.Nf3 - one might guess it's something related.

The only Vaganian Gambit I'm aware of is in the Trompowsky: 1.d4 Nf6 2.Bg5 c5 3.d5 Qb6 4.Nc3 Qxb2 5.Bd2 and so on. 

But there White is playing a gambit, not Black. So possibly Alterman has something else in mind.

Anyone got the book?
It looks interesting with what seems to be a complete repertoire against 1.d4 and 1.c4.
In particular the Blumenfeld was up for a book.

Btw Anyone knows what the Vaganian gambit is?
