I like to play 4...c5 against 4.Dc2. How many annotated games are in this line? Especially in the 5.Nf3 var, because nobody plays 5.dc5 against me at my level (between 1900-2100).

That is odd.  I notice that from the position after my first thought, 5...cd 6. Nxd4 Nc6, NIC's online database apparently has White scoring 34.6%.

Yes, I know. But I face lots of 5.Nf3 and 5.e3 anyway (I've realized that when someone has no idea how to play against NID, usually plays Qc2).

Not difficult to play, but interesting to see if Tivi had anything to say about that  Wink

Thx!

He does not cover 5.Nf3.

But in the database around 650 games included - starting with Euwe - Colle, Amsterdam 1926. Tiviakov mentions several times that you have study more material to master the opening (esp. the Huebner Variation). But i think kylemeister shows the right idea.

I like both DVDs because you get an excellent starting point for developing your repertoire. Often he makes comments how to handle the middle game or how to evaluate the position.

I don't understand why Tiviakov doesn't recommend 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nf3 b6 4.g3 Ba6. This line is very similar to his line against the Catalan.

I think it's to cut down on the amount of theory he has to learn because he also plays something very similar to 1.Nf3 i.e. 1.Nf3 Nf6 2.c4 b6 3.g3 Bb7 4.Bg2 e6 5.0-0 Be7 6.Nc3 0-0 and now if 7.d4 we have a transposition to his Queen's Indian mainline. 7.Re1 is more popular though (instead of transposition), and Tiv responds with Ne4 8.Nxe4 Bxe4 9.d3 Bb7 10.e4 c5. Khalifmann in his 2nd edition of OFWAK vol 2, gives the following assessment; "7...Ne4, and it leads to positions with slight, but stable positional pressure for White as he obtains plenty of extra space. Black's best defensive line seems to be 10...c5".

Generally, I liked the repertoire presented in Vol#2 (the NID) with those early ..c5s.
He recommends two different methods for meeting the fianchetto, depending on White's move-order. (4.g3 0-0 5.Bg2 d5 or 4.Nf3 c5 5.g3 cxd4 6.Nxd4 0-0 7.Bg2 d5)
As for the Leningrad, I had not seen a repertoire book/video which advocated taking on d5 almost on the first opportunity. (4.Bg5 c5 5.d5 exd5) Is it good or just simpler?

as
*W 1d4) Torre/Barry/Pirc/Philidor/ early _d5:early c4(QGD/Slav/QGD/etc)
*B) 1e4:e6 [+1_c5 2Nf3 a6]| 1d4:e6 2c4 Bb4+ BID/pseudoNID [+1_Nf6 NID]| 1c4:c5,_Nc6,_e5,_g6| 1Nf3:c5

Does Tiviakov cover white sidelines, such as Colle, Trompowsky etc? Judging by the description on the Chessbase website, I guess not?

Correct: they are not covered.

Both DVDs start from 1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 e6. Vol 1 covers 3. Nf3 and 3. g3 while Vol 2 covers 3. Nc3.

Reverse,

At a high level, what QID setup is he advocating against the fianchetto and the Petrosian variation? Thanks
