I just received this DVD last night. The chessbase trainers by strong Grandmasters are great for improvement. I am mainly refering to Bologan, Ftacnik,Shirov and Tiviakov. I haven't seen any by Kramnik or Anand but im sure they are top class.

Anyway, Tiviakov presents the material in a very orgainzed fashion with links to games next to each video file. He gives clear evaluations and plans for black in almost every variation per video file.  He is very thorough. Also, each video file consists of many many games, where he only concentrates on the opening and plans for both sides as they transition into the middlegame. He does not take one game and go through the whole game, including endgame, like other presenters do such as Andrew Martin, Nigel Davies, Sam Collins, etc.. This always seemed as a way for the author to really make the whole video long and put little effort into it since they are only going over less than 30 games for the whole chessbase trainer. Its opening dvd stop doing half ass analysis on endgames to take up time.

Tiviakov also includes a Giant Database of 58,000 QID/Catalan games of the lines he presents. There is lalso a database of all of his games from these two opening and then another database of all of his games from these two openings that he has annotated.

This chessbase trainer has risen the bar very high. Hopefully other presenters take note and make adjustments.

I would say it is a must buy for anyone who plays these openings.

hehe Tiviakov is probably the least player to care about that.

It's not the world's most inspiring line, but it's very solid, and understanding is usually more important than theoretical knowledge in these 'system' lines, at least if his Yearbook survey on this setup is anything to go by.

Apparently Tiviakov is doing two DVDs on the Nimzo, 416C6961730001 and Catalan. The first one is on the latter two. http://www.chessbase-shop.com/en/products/tiviakov_no_fear_of_1d4_vol.%201

I haven't seen his other DVDs but I've enjoyed his contributions to NiC yb.

I'm not so crazy about the way he plays the QID. I mean judging by his games, playing Bb7 rather than Ba6, then going for c6 and d5...
