How about Arthur Kaufmann of the Kaufmann variation? If I recall correctly he beat Reti as well as Tartakower in matches.

After looking at the excerpt, it seems like there are a lot of analyses containing mostly lines and final assessments of who is better or worse. It looks more detailed than his previous book based on what I saw of that excerpt.

I completely ceased to play 1. e4 in 2008 after struggling against the Berlin, Petroff, Marshall, Najdorf, Taimanov, French, and many other openings. I think my score with 1. e4 was around 30%, having lost positions against Sicilians around move 25 and gaining no advantage against Berlin and Petroff.

Kaufmann who? Never heard of him. The GM and chess writer is definitely the first one I think of.

I am anticipating reading this book for the Grünfeld itself. I already read the Chess Stars Grünfeld repertoire book and the Quality Chess two-volume repertoire work by Avrukh, and more Grünfeld material is never a bad thing.

I'm a big fan of his earlier 'Chess Advantage' book. I'm excited by the new one, but I'm also very surprised at his choices - at least those I've been able to see on the pdf excerpt.

The Grunfeld is so theoretical! Okay, I guess the Semi-Slav from his first book is too, but I don't think the body of theory in the Semi-Slav is as large as the Grunfeld complex. Then there's all the deviations arising from 1.d4 Nf6 to deal with - such as the Trompowsky and 2.Nf3. 

From the White perspective, I knew he was changing to 1.d4. Once again, I wonder if 1.e4 isn't a better choice for amateurs, if only because the central pawn formations arising from 1.e4 are less diverse than those arising from the vast choice Black has against 1.d4.

I'm aware that at GM level the Petroff and Marshall are two great thorns in the side of 1.e4, but at a less exalted level it seems to me that 1.e4 is still a very good try for an advantage.

Still, I'm excited by the book and if nothing else the 1...e5 Black repertoire will be worth the price of admission.

On another note, slightly irritated that I have to wait for another month or so for my pre-ordered copy from a large, UK based internet bookseller! If I'd known that NIC was selling it earlier I would have ordered direct from them.

NIC are the publisher so perhaps understandably they have it available before American distributors do!
