Well in that game 22. Qb7?? is the losing mistake. Instead White should have played 22. Qe3 after which Black is on the precipice (but I agree that no human would play that move without looking at it at home).

15...Qc7 best option for black . After 15...Qb2, a single mistake can cost Black the game

I never played the Polu, I´m just an interested kibitz - 15. ...Qb2 feels rather wrong - why not just Qc7, to give the queen some rest and hope for the best. Smiley

I made the previous post from memory but just checked my analysis and you are quite right I mixed up the variations :

17. Rab1 Qxc2 18. Nfg5 Qc7 leads to big trouble after 19.a4

When 19..Qe5 as played before gets trounced with 20.Bxb5! axb5 21.Rxb5 Bd5 22.Rc1 and on the alternative 19..h6 follows 20.Rfc1 Nc6 21.axb5 axb5 21.Nf3 with no good moves for black left. Relatively best is 19..b4 but after 20.Rxb4 Nc6 21.Rc4 I do not envy black's position.

Right is 17..Qxa2 18.c4 Bxe4 19.fxg7 Bxg7 20.Qxe4 Rd6! and black is still in the game.

That is surprising. First 17. Rab1 Qxa2 18. Bxb5 axb5 19. Rxb5 Nc6! gets White nowhere, second after 17. Rab1 Qxc2 18. Nfg5 Qc7 Solak played 19. fxg7 which is not the best move I think.

The line I had in mind was 12. ... Ra7 13. Qd3 Rd7 14. Ne4 Qe5 15. Nf3 Qxb2 16. Qe3 Bb7 17. Rab1 Qxa2 18. c4

I did not know that many people still play the Polugaevsky Variation. It looks extremely frightening to play. White seems to have developed all the pieces and Black makes half of the moves with the queen..

Not sure what the current leading line is, but I found this post interesting.

Move found here was 14.Nxe6!  Seems to be a kill blow. A better move than even 14.Bxb5
