Interesting about the Tarrasch line. So is that the main line (he Rasmussen-Aagaard game to move 20+) or one of the lines?

Are any King's Indian repertoire books considered in the King's Indian chapter? And what do you think of the analyses of the repertoire choices in the Grünfeld and King's Indian?

I noticed Rasmussen-Aagaard when it was played (a couple of months ago in the Danish championship) and wondered if Watson might advocate playing like that.  On the tournament website there were remarks to the effect that the view in the commentary room (with input from Rasmussen after the game) was that that doubled c-pawn endgamish line is slightly better for White.

What line exactly is given against the Slav, is it allowing 3...dxc4?

And against the Grünfeld, is Avrukh's GM Repertoire books analyses considered (or any other Grünfeld repertoire book)?

Avrukh's analysis is considered and Dembo's. Probably others too!
Also vs Tarrasch he analyses the lines from Aagaard and Ntrilis. Watson even included a gamefragment from Aagaard playing the Tarrasch vs Rasmussen in 2012 (!!), which Aagaard lost... Wink
In his introduction he states that he does not include a bibliography because it is too big!!

Also what level do you think this book is for? To me from the excerpt it looks quite useful for a wide range of players, certainly for my level (2250-2300 FIDE or according to http://www.sudburychess.org.uk/EcfEloCalc.htm, approximately 200-205 ECF), but what do you think?

I am rated around 2100 FIDE. But my guess is from 2000-2300? Maybe higher, but I am unable to judge. But I think it is dense enough till 2300.
Basically the book is not a London YAWN system, nor is it a cutting edge sharp theory heavy tome a la "Starting out d4".
But it comes closer way more (of course) to the latter than the first. He proposes active systems, from what I am able to judge at the moment, which gives you chances to play for the initiative but without burning your bridges and ending up in a hopeless junk because of a missed theoretical move at move 15.

And it looks perfect to combine with the probably sharper Schandorff  Cool

Got the book today. Looks perfect!
And delivers what it promises.

Two lines vs KID, two lines vs GID. Book is play the french like. Enough prose, but more variations.

Have not looked too much yet.

Feel free to ask about the book.

Since Watson's French book will be released in late June and also with the Gambit book, perhaps he worked on both simultaneously? Smiley

That certainly appears to be the case!

Gilchrist, relax.  The books are coming. Smiley

Sometimes proofing and printing take longer than expected.  Rest assured that you're going to get your money's worth with any Watson book!

How long did it take for Eingorn's Gambit book to be released after the excerpt was posted? That might serve as an indication for Watson's book.

I've pre ordered the book from amazon.uk and received the following email just last week, " Unfortunately, the release date for the item(s) listed below has changed, and we need to provide you with a new delivery estimate based on the new release date:

John Watson "A Strategic Chess Opening Repertoire for White" Estimated arrival date: July 30, 2012 - August 03, 2012."

Shouldn't this thread be moved to 'General Chess'?
