I learnt the Slav many years ago from a strange book by Matthew Sadler where he kept asking himself questions. No doubt its completely outdated now but as I remember it explained the basic ideas well.

P.S. I seem to remember that there was an email about 4...dxc4 from one of the subscribers to Ruslan not so long ago, so I expect he will look at this as soon as he can.

Tony, no offense intended at all. I really like Chesspub, and I subscribe to all sections. But, I just wanted to point out that there was no coverage of this specific line, which is not too uncommon at club level, simply because the variation is not as theory heavy as other lines. IIRC, there was even an author of a Slav book writing he's used the line because he was a bit lazy to use another response (Burgess?).

Funny that you mention an email, it might have been somebody that realized he needs to prepare this line as Black, and hoped for some coverage in the files, because that reader likes to use the new playable ebooks  Wink

Of course, but ChessPublishing.com was never intended to be an encyclopaedia, as it analyses important novelties from the previous month. Theory should be driving the content - many years ago we received complaints that the Marshall was poorly covered ... and some years later we received a complaint from a subscriber that there was too much on the Marshall!! Roll Eyes
Ruslan has a particular problem as his section covers about 80 ECO codes, but as several 2700+ players have asked me for a subscription simply to access Ruslan's material I think it is fair to say that is an important resource for any 2200+ player who is serious about his chess.

Who mentioned that? Huh The original post, in case you missed it:

All four lines are extremely well covered, aren't they?

I did, because I wanted to mention that there are some things that are not covered in the file, since the original question was "What are the best resources for the Slav on recent theory for 2200+", right? But I agree "particularly in the line 1. d4 d5 2. c4 c6 3. Nf3 Nf6 4. Nc3 dxc4 5. a4 Bf5 6. e3 e6 7. Bxc4 Bb4 8. 0-0 0-0 9. Qe2 and 9. Nh4, 6. Ne5, and 6. Nh4?" is well covered for sure.

That leaves the sources ChessPublishing ...

Ruslan's work is always excellent, and the Slav PDF eBook (http://www.chesspublishing.com/p/7/ebooks.htm) is surely the most up-to-date source. Wink

Out of curiosity, how did you find the book?

Thanks, I ordered the book. I needed a new update on all of the lines that are covered in that book since my last book on those lines is the Burgess book from 2001.

It's not a GM Repertoire book but for its size it covers quite a bit of ground I think. And it's a well-written book so if money or space is not a major issue, it is worth having, you will definitely find some new ideas and new angles of explanations in there. I was wrong about what is covered, though: it stars from 4 .. dxc4, it has a chapter on 5 not a4 and 5 .. not Bf5.
