Seen some news stories lately with news vids from Ukraine of Nazi groups saluting in the stands and attacking people in the audience, while the police stand watching passively, creates an uneasy feeling about the whole championship...

Yes I hope too, and that is the kind of problem that Blatter and FIFA seems to never take on account when choosing the countries (only money is on their heads) and the same goes to Russia or Qatar. Maybe they put all the army on the streets, but for african teams it will be complicated. In Qatar I want to see if that lady from latin america who puts the iphone inside her brests will do the same there. I doubt it. Poland is a major concern too and is a paradox because they were the first to be invaded by nazis before the second world war.  Undecided

Hopefully germany Wink, but spain is also a possibility,
I'd say it will be one of them, chances are 50:50.
For me the dark horse might be France.

Any lessons to be drawn from all the friendlies being played to warm up before the tm?

Germany losing 3-5 to Switzerland could suggest some defensive weaknesses. France almost losing to Iceland, but eventually reaching 3-2 just like Sweden yesterday though we were at least ahead the whole match through - though the defence left two players unguarded to score with two headers. The first twenty minutes gave cause for some slight Swedish optimism. But I won't be rushing to buy a new TV on the offer of getting it for free if we win the final.  Grin

For those of a betting persuasion, surely Zlatan is worth a flutter for top goalscorer at around 60-1...

Roy was manager for Malmö FF in the late 80s early 90s. As I remember it they always won the league but still only got two golds since at the time there was a knock-out tournament for the championship following the league...

He's a very capable manager with a knack for making the best from limited resources: Fulham, West Bromwich -- England... :) Still surprised that he failed so miserably with Liverpool though.

Why not Lampard as captain? And it is difficult supporting England, since the only team that have that are excelling in any sport currently is the Test cricket squad Smiley

Ferdinand won't be healthy enough to play an entire tournament according to his manager, Ferguson. Terry, as ugly a personality as he has, will be healthy. That's the real reason Terry was chosen and Ferdinand wasn't chosen.

I am rooting for Gerrard to be England's captain. Hodgson is very familiar with Gerrard, so it makes sense. However, if Parker is healthy I expect he will be chosen again.

I voted for Spain before I saw the rosters.

I really do like England as a dark-horse team.  This is probably a bit of home-pride (Even tho I'm living in the US, I consider England my home team). However, nobody expects them to do particularly well this year, even the Limeys! The real reason for picking England as a dark-horse is Joe Hart. Goal tending in short tournaments such as this is greatly underrated, and Joe Hart has had a season for the ages as goalie for Manchester City.

England has always been known for its defense and lack of imagination up front. Roy Hodgson, England's manager, isnt' exactly the most innovative manager ever but he has chosen some attacking players who are not run-of-the-mill. Rooney and Carroll will cause headaches for most teams.

Again, I did not pick England to win. But again, they make an interesting dark-horse pick.

This should be a fun tournament!

To be honest, I have no idea what France were doing in 2010. I was on holiday in Norway during the group stages, and saw France's games on bar televisions wondering what kind of strategy they had to play like that.

My vote goes to Germany.
It's always a good tournament team and now they also
have very succesful players playing at the highest levels in Europe.
If they qualify from their tough preliminary group with Denmark, Netherlands, Portugal they are hot favourites IMO.

Why not many people voting for Spain? Sí sé que Espańa perdió contra Suiza el los grupos primarios del Copa Del Mundo 2010, pero no creo que éso signifique nada malo Smiley

Et la France, y-furent-ils dans les finales de la Coupe du Monde 2006?

Spain is missing some important players and except for Soldado their strikers are out of form - but maybe Torres has finally found some form lately...

France didn't impress in 2010 to say the least. They may still be trying to replace the Zidane generation I guess.

Just saw that Hodgson has chosen John Terry over Rio Ferdinand (http://svt.se/sport/fotboll/englands-trupp-till-em) - is he really so important in the defence that it's right to keep him although he must be bad for the team morale?
