All of them seem interesting...

Your opinion, and you are entitled to it.

I disagree with it. I consider the match, to date, mostly uninteresting. I don't find anything in these games that couldn't be replicated in some run-of-the-mill tournament by lesser GMs.

As a spectator I am disappointed, and have no enthusiasm for it right now.

As a chessplayer I understand why they're playing it safe - that doesn't make it interesting.

US Championship more interesting than the World Championship? I am not sure most non-Americans would agree, or know even that the US Championship is in progress...

Never before has a World Championship match not had my full attention. The US championships have been much more interesting and, more importantly for me anyway, more instructive.

Maybe the chess in this World Championship has been too refined for my taste. Maybe not. For the record, I was riveted to my computer screen during the entire Kramnik/Leko match (which everyone back then thought was EXTREMELY boring). By contrast, I can't even work up the effort to yawn for this year's match.

I know, I know...be careful in criticizing players who are much better than you will ever be and who are playing for much more than you ever will. There's also still a chance for this match to become exciting. However, I think most people are deceiving themselves in thinking this match has had anything truly interesting happen in it through the first five games.

Just my two cents.

Only game 4 has interested me at all so far, in any sense. The rest have been uninteresting.

Here's to hoping the action picks up once first blood is drawn and one of the competitors feels the need to come out of their safety net.

All of them seem interesting, but I doubt they are playing to entertain all the crowd? How many players here would jeopardise their chances at maintaining momentum in this tournament by playing the 6. Bg5 Najdorf, Botvinnik Semi-Slav, Winawer 7...Qc7, or Benkö Gambit every game solely in order to please the spectators? I would rather draw than lose in 25 moves. But interesting positions and tactical positions are mutually exclusive; a very seemingly dull and/or positional position with or without high amounts of piece trades can be interesting. A positional player might enjoy an equal rook endgame, probably not the tactical players.

Even when others (spectators or other players in the tournament) come and stand closeby and watch my games and the boards around me in tournaments I become nervous. The action of others watching makes me want to take even less risk that I usually would take. I would rather draw than enter a crazy position and lose quickly in front of 20 people.

Live ratings:
Anand: 2786,5
Radjabov: 2784,0
Anand losses 0,9 points after every draw against Gelfand, so three more draws and Anand is just number 5.

What concerns me about Gelfand's play is that although he obviously doesn't want to take any undue risks, he may be liable to not push for advantages when he has the chance.

He will probably not get another shot at the WC so it would be a shame if say Anand wins a close game and then shuts up shop for the rest of the match.  I'm thinking of moves like the 24.Qc2 in game 4, I found it hard to believe this could be the best try for an advantage.

Quite difficult to watch Anand - Gelfand live; this time 27 moves and another draw was agreed.

Sorry Keano, I think our opinions on what makes a game interesting are wildly different Smiley  After that I think I would have preferred a Petrov after all, the word 'insipid' springs to mind.  Understandable in the circumstances of course.

Well it was interesting to me, but I can see how other people mightn't have liked it much! Once Gelfand exchanged the Knights I think he was OK. Think the positional idea for White behind the scenes is an exchange sac on c5 if Black plonks the Knight there but it never happened. Its not great for spectators I suppose but it was good chess. Of course the other interesting point is the choice of opening and if Anand will take on the Sveshnikov with something a little sharper.

For a moment I thought we were going to have a Najdorf! Most people forget here that this is the favourite opening of Gelfand and not the Petroff! (unless he said otherwise in one of his interviews and I missed it!)

btw @Keano: I completely disagree with your view on Kramnik-Topalov (I wasn't able to let you get away with your statement either!). But I agree, there is no use to discuss all this again..

Draw. Interesting game, looked like it was nicely under control from Gelfand. Nice surprise going for the Sveshnikov instead of the Petroff as everybody seemed to be predicting. Maybe Anand will go 1.e4 again in the match now.

You do realize the match with Kramnik went to the rapids is because Topalov was given a free point for "Toilet-gate."  Kramnik won the match fair and square on the board in regulation, and a second time in the rapids.

Don't get us started on Toilet-gate again please or you'll have a riot on here. I can't let you get away with that statement though, the match was a draw in regulation and dragging Kramniks decision not to play a game into it is only one aspect of the whole match which must have affected both players in different ways. In terms of chess I thought Toppy played much better than Kramnik but for whatever reason he gifted a series of strange blunders which allowed Kramnik to draw. Then we had the joke of trying to decide a World ch in rapid.
