Anand has blundered, now Gelfand has winning chances, maybee we will have Gelfands first win over Anand since 1993!

EDIT

Gelfand won! Good for the match since Anand now needs to switch towards his true style!

I liked todays commentary by GM Arkadij Naiditsch.
"Gelfand continues his match strategy: no chances for me and no chances for you games"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
We should change the poll to add "No one wins."

Which one of you said the match would be cancelled? LOL

I did. Is the match started then?

I think that Gelfand played the Sveshnikov is an indication that he is trying to win. But the game is quite difficult to win with 11. c4, especially in the line with opposite-coloured bishops.

He can keep trying to crack it or else come from another angle with 1.Nf3 or 1.c4 but I suspect he'll stick with 1.d4

I agree. I double that angle shooting with c4 or Nf3 really works against the triangle setup with d5, c6 and e6.

Perhaps Gelfand will also play 1.e4 as Anand, Kramnik and Aronion have done in matches. Smiley

Less than 1/10th of the people voting thought the match would end in a tie of any sort before the start of the event. To me, this shows a nice lack of cynicism on the part of the Chess Publicans.

While the odds of a tie have definitely skyrocketed, I imagine the majority will still expect a decisive result in the next six games.

I wonder what Gelfand's next trick is as he's got another white ! I've felt for a while that Bg5 is the critical move against the semi slav.  This e3 stuff is pretty level.  I doubt if Vishy has left preparation for his 3 easy black draws. Only 6 games to go - what odds 12 draws or will someone go for it !!

I'm enjoying the US Championship. And yeah, of course 6 games a day is more entertaining than one game a day.

But in the end, I would rather watch Bayern Munich and Chelsea play to a scoreless draw and have to go to penalty-kicks shoot out than watch the LA Galaxy and New England Revolution have a 7 goal score-fest.

Matters of taste are beyond dispute. (No need to quote the Latin. The common language today is English.)

Never before has a World Championship match not had my full attention. The US championships have been much more interesting and, more importantly for me anyway, more instructive.

Stripunsky - Onischuk was particularly instructive, what is going on? Do they have a free bar in the tournament hall?

hahaha, nice one Boris

Interviewer: "What do you say in reply to Kasparov's comment that this is the first WCh that is not between the strongest two players in the world?"

Gelfand: "I think he wanted to remind everyone that he was the best in the world, in case anyone had forgotten"

Draw agreed, although the players were unable to avoid one or two points of interest in this game.

Its does seem like the sort of position that Gelfand is after.

Imagine he's decided its his best chance of beating Anand and he's no doubt thought about it in some detail so it'd be rather presumptious to question him too strongly Smiley

Anand did of course win with black against both Kramnik and Topalov so real aggression far from risk free.
