Weird one. I could sooner understand 61 h7????, since at least you could understand the thought process. What is the point of 61 Rh7 ?

The point must be to cut off the Black king from the 7th and 8th ranks. He must have reasoned "If the Black king reaches f7 it has to be a draw" or something. But yes, activating his own King was much more of a priority.

Yep, the endings in the rapid games where rather horid.
First gelfand allowed an exchange of minor pieces into a lost rook endgame (game 2). Then Anand allowed the exchange of minor pieces into a very difficult but still drawn rook endgame. Then Anand made a mistake so Gelfland got into a won position (52...Ke6? played 52....Rc2+= gaining an essential tempo).
Then Gelfland blundered the win away.
Strangely enough I warned in my thread on Bacrot-Robson (technical intermezzo) that a similar position would be won for white (white rook in front, black rook behind the h-pawn) would be won for white provided the black king was away far enough. I preceded this with the remark that most players with basic endgame knowledge could skip over this...

I was sickened by this move, I thought Soviet trained top grandmaster would have this completely worked out, it just seemed so obvious even moving instantly that the only possible win was to move the king up
