No we are a listed interface now ( this page is also reachable by the 'more web apps' button on the main download software page) http://www.chessclub.com/index.php/download-software/java/ and Lantern questions from Lantern users are answered in channel one(help) almost daily.   You do pretty much need to be a paid member to use it, not a trial to use it which is pretty much the rule for all third party interfaces used on ICC from Winboard to Thief(yes there are still a few thief users on ICC) to Lantern to Jin chess as only a few mainline apps like ICC for windows and Dasher BlitzIn etc support trials( have trial verification code).   As to why you are kicked out, maybe there is an issue on your IP since you were trying to guest in. Technically if the IP has no issues you should be able to guest in from a telnet app if you wished though you can't do much. I beleive the standard error message for a trial trying to use any third party interface is they are told their account has no time on it (expired) and this fixes when they get back on the computer and interface they started the trial.

I have tried logging on to ICC as a guest only to be immediately kicked out by the administrators! Do they object to Lantern Chess?

The first apology is plenty, ReneDescartes, thanks.  And thanks to Tony for letting me introduce Lantern. Going to try and take a backseat on this thread unless there is more discussion or questions about Lantern maybe from ICC users or Mac, iPhone or iPad users who play online chess. We are in the computer room now so maybe the comments(if there are more) would be more like software comments.

Ok, sorry I came within an inch of calling you a liar.

OK, thanks for confirming. Michael, it is of course clear now that you were truthful. Thank you for asking permission and good luck with your software.

A quite roundabout apology. A 'sorry' would be appropriate I'd very much think.

There's a lot of attribution to GM Kosten by you, but nothing from GM Kosten.

It's OK, I thought it could be interesting for some Forum members so I gave permission, and to be perfectly frank I was happy that Michael asked permission first. Smiley A lot of people don't ask and just go ahead and post. Angry

On the other hand, this thread should probably be moved to the Chess and Computers section.

Done. Smiley

I used the inmail system and messaged tonykosten twice now. If the computer room is a better place lets go there. If you ask and follow procedures and offer a post of general interest sometimes people say yes. If they don't, you don't post.

There's a lot of attribution to GM Kosten by you, but nothing from GM Kosten. I don't currently believe he gave you permission, and I won't believe it until I see it confirmed by him or an admin who spoke to him. You have placed many posts in a row, all touting yourself and your products, in two different areas of the forum. I really don't care if you helped develop Blitzin or if it's free. Your plugging with repeated posts is unpleasant to look at and not what I expect or want to see coming to this forum.

Admins--please confirm his claims or delete this junk. Thanks, RD

I don't really see the need for a comment like this.  If he's lying, I'm sure Tony will notice and take care of it.  Don't need to be rude, sheesh.

On the other hand, this thread should probably be moved to the Chess and Computers section.  But why is everyone so crotchety?

You know if someone posts about chessbase or fritz or ICC or the playmagnus app it's all good these are considered acceptable chess product to talk about. I"m just a small indie chess developer.  I apologize for this thread growing a little out of control. Most of the posts were 2 years ago and I sort of lost my cool at being called an imposter.  I did not lie that i got permission to post about Lantern Chess and Pulsar Chess from GMTonyKosten but I won't dispute that with you. I apologize if I offended you or anyone or put content into the forum you don't see of value.

I wanted to add that GMTonyKosten mentioned that there was maybe a higher level of cynicism back when i first posted owing to problems with spammers.  Thanks for the heads up it's nice to begin to understand why posts get a certain reaction Smiley Also i'm thrilled we now have lantern users on chesspub.com Smiley

It was a difficult time back then as Chessclub delayed giving Lantern official recognition for some months though they spoke well of it.  Maybe it had to do with they were also in the middle of developing their first Mac interface and Lantern could be a competing Mac client as well. I'm over it Smiley

Curently i'm most proud of Lantern Chess the iOS version.  https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/lantern-chess/id743520893?ls=1 It's free like regular lantern(its an ICC interface for iPad/Iphone) and offers a different style than the ICC iOS app. It has a board console and you can set very channel and text color.  Great for observing games with it's top games list on Games menu by board and great for chat.  It's been a learning process for me as well in how to deal with the public.

I take online lessons in the ICC net and I have to say Lantern is the better interface I have used, by far. Multi-platform and very configurable.

Thx !!
