I think we've discussed this several times over the years. So, one more time: a downside with an early ...d6 is that white can choose a system where the best black reply involves d7-d5.

Gurevich mostly plays/played 1.d4 d6 2.Nf3 g6 3.c4 f5, 1.d4 d6 2.c4 f5, 1.Nf3 d6 + f5 as did I when I wanted to play the Leningrad Dutch. Recently (just last night!) I play 1.d4 c6 2.c4 f5 to get to the mainline Leningrad Dutch with 7...c6, to avoid Anti-Dutch lines. It helps that I also play the Caro-Kann, off course.

Still it should be remembered that one important prerequisite for using this move-order is that you are prepared to play Pirc/Philidor since white can always switch with e4 at some point.

I think the best move orders for black here are:

1.d4 d6 2.c4 e5! - a very good addition to the repertoire. Black seems very ok there! Of course 2...f5 is possible as well, but that allows various offbeat tries and 2...e5 is just the better move probably...

1.d4 d6 2.Nf3 g6 3.c4 f5 - avoids almost all anti-dutch lines
1.d4 d6 2.Nf3 g6 3.e4 Nf6! - avoids the modern with 3...Bg7 4.c4 and leads to a Pirc
1.d4 d6 2.Nf3 g6 3.g3 Bg7 4.Bg2 and then you can play 4...f5 or even 4...c5, which ia interesting as well 

also

1.Nf3 d6! is a very nice additional benefit of this move order!

But if white plays 3.e4 I'm out of my book (if I have to learn KID or modern then I might as well play them instead of the leningrad)  Sad

I see your point in the other line with 5.Qd3 btw

Hi guys,
as i play 1...d6 against 1.e4 i thought it would be nice to play it against 1.d4 to play a Leningrad Dutch avoiding anti-dutch stuff.
But i guess that nothing comes in for free so I was wondering what additional problems I may meet. I think white has some ways of achieving an early e2-e4 (e.g. 1.d4 d6 2.c4 f5 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.Bg5 Nbd7 5.Qc2) but it doesn't look too threatning... or is it?!
