	Not sure about Chess Life, but Paul Motwani had a chapter on a French repertoire including the Fort Knox in his second book, COOL Chess.

	The only thing that I remember that fits that description is a chapter (or part of a chapter) in Pirc Alert (or if not that, one of the repertoire books co-authored by Alburt) describing how Chernin (?) taught the Fort Knox to some class player. Since it's in a book on the Pirc, perhaps that explains why you couldn't find it.
