Now that you mention Rattman Verlag, I got hold of volume 1 of Das Mittelspiel, 2008 edition by Euwe, Kramer, and Treppner (!) at a discount last year. A very nice hardback, updating a classic with examples played by strong GMs of today.

Sadly they didn't get to volume 2... and a slight flaw is it's not always clear when the text is original Euwe/Kramer and when it's Treppner's.

Well a classic comes to mind: Nimzowitsch - Mein System.

The publisher "Rattmann Verlag" has published a very nice hard-cover edition some years ago.

Bronzniks books are good and not mere translations of the English editions.

True. But I thought with many Bronznik books the English edition (when there is one) is the most up-to-date?

One of my favorite middlegame books is Bronznik/Terekhin: Techniken des Positionsspiels im Schach. It's expanded from an original Russian book, and never translated into English as far as I know. A book with chapters on various strategies, on a level somewhere between the typical strategy primers (Euwe/Kramer, Silman, Grooten etc.) and Dvoretsky.

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

Here goes one: "Técnica creativa en el medio juego" by G.M. Alfonso Romero.

I wonder how that one relates to "Creative Chess Strategy," which seemed quite a good book.

Here goes one: "Técnica creativa en el medio juego" by G.M. Alfonso Romero. There's also Comas Fabrego's "Mentiras arriesgadas en ajedrez" but it's available in english.

Hi all,
I have been trying to learn by myself German and Spanish for some time now, and I am looking for some good chess books in either language, and any recommendations would be greatly appreciated, especially if the book is not available in English!

I am currently rated 2100.

p.s. if anyone could link me to a list of the names of the chess pieces + commonly used chess terms (light squares, advantage for white etc) I would be greatly thankful too!
