Ach, Qh2, of course. Really that's logical; once you think the queen has to be on a4 and thus needs to go via f4 to pin the d-pawn. I even half-remembered it as well.

Good effort. I'm glad to hear EG is still going as well, as somehow I thought it had ceased publication.

I'll offer 1 Kh1 Kf1 2 e5 for number 5, and if it helps I know I once saw number 4 before and couldn't solve it that time either.

By the way, the event was graced with two wonderful sponsors.  Strategems and EG both sent issues of their journals to distribute to participants, and Mike Prcic, editor of Strategems, sent along copies of his book on Frederick Gamage for the winners.  Many thanks to both magazines!

Tonight, as an added attraction for those attending the Midwest Open here in Omaha, Nebraska, I put on a solving competition.  I'm attaching a link to the problems that solvers were faced with, and I'll post the correct answers on Sunday night.
