You are right of course. It would be outright bad.  Embarrassed 

I mixed up with the h3 and Bd3 variation. Sorry.

Petrov gives only 1.d4 and 2. c4 in his book.

Thank you LeeRoth. 

Nice obervation! Good reminder as a Benoni/Benko player that never to forget thinking about the thematic e4-e5 push in  this systems. Even in endgames. 

Otherwise I  think the book itself is pretty good. 

Btw:  the move order you give , allows white to play 8.e4 and take  9.exd5, but Im pretty sure your aware of that.

I've been working through Marian Petrov's book on the Benoni and thought this was instructive.  Goes to show that White's e5 advance can still be strong in the endgame.  The moves are from an actual game that continued 27..Nc4 with a draw.  

In a side comment, Petrov points out that after 27..Ned7 28.Rb7 Rxc3 29. g5 Nh5 30.Rxd7,  Black can also draw by attacking the white king.  30..Bd4+ 31.Kh1 Be3 32.Rxd6 Ng3+ 33.Kh2 Bxf4 34.Rd8+ Kg7 and whatever White tries next, Black has a perpetual.  Very nice.  

But White can play instead 29.e5! dxe5 blocking the Bg7 from getting out.  Now, 30.g5 Nh5 31.Rxd7 Nxf4 32.d6 Bxf8 33.Re7 Kg7 34.Rxe5 wins for White.
