Yes, every new Megabase version usually contains everything from previous years.

But, no, not everything from CBM goes into Megabase. At least not from the opening surveys. I have repeatedly checked that games that were annotated exclusively for opening surveys didn't make it into Megabase. I don't know why.

For instance, Marin annotated a game Miles-Lane, 2001 in CBM 147 (King’s Indian Torre Attack A48 survey) that appeared in April 2012. But these annotations didn't make it into Mega 2013 in November 2012. And this is the rule.

(The game itself is in Megabase, of course, but without annotations.)

Terrible performance that by Chessbase.

You would think with people paying the exorbitant prices they would at least get simple things like that right.  Angry

Well, isn't the reason that Chessbase wants to sell Megabase and the old CBM as well?

Thx. That was new to me with CBM opening surveys and the Opening Encyclopedia.

I always thought I had enough material with an up-to date Megabase, a corr database, and Chess Publishing. But you could never know...

Huh The fear of missing something? - I already have enough chess content for 10 lives to work on  Grin

The answer may be simple: You should buy the Opening Encyclopedia. The Opening Encylopedia has alwasy more annoted games that the Mega Database because you have also access to all surveys which are published in the CBM. But the Opening Encyclopedia does not include any update of games.

What i have also noticed that the regular CBM has only around 1000 games and so the most news games are delivered with the CBM Extra which costs additional 45 - 50 Euro / year. In the past the CBM was much more value, around 500 commented games and perhaps 5000 games in an issue. Wells strategy column is gone but now they have much more videos which imo only a waste of time.

Those games and notes go into the Opening Encyclopedia DVD.

They have a small cache of games that are held back from CBMs and are included in the new edition of Megabase.  I think there are about 300k new games in the 2014 edition, 160k of which were not in any of the CBMs.

As an aside, it's obvious that they 'borrow' material from The Week in Chess.  I sent Crowther a few games from a large American event that he was not privy to in his first reporting, and he included them in a later issue of TWIC.  Those games, which appeared only in TWIC, are now in Megabase.

Yes 2014 version should contain everything from previous years.

I think each annual Megabase update just adds all games from the CBM issues of the preceding year?! So maybe CBM subscription is good value if one plans to update Megabase every year.

Does each new version of MegaBase contain all the games from the previous version ? Each one seems to contain more games than the one before. I have MegaBase 2011 and just want to know, if I was to invest in the newly advertised 2014 version, am I missing anything by making the 2014 version my reference database ?
