I'm also a "surgeon", despite choosing Black in that game. I assumed it was a theoretical position and roughly equal, although I didn't really want to play either side.

I just checked on Chessbase's online database and indeed it's been played hundreds of times. After ...Kd8 Black scores a little over 50%.

I guess I'm the only 'Surgeon' here, a la Emanuel Lasker (supposedly).

By the way, did anyone actually choose Black in that first position?  I think that's the question they use to see whether you're a Patzer.  Actually the longer I looked at it (i.e. 30 seconds) the less dead Black seemed after 1...Kd8, but still; less dead?  No, thank you.

Mastermind, like Alekhine. I can live with that.  Smiley

Interesting - I never thought about myself as very similar to Alekhine, but the description does seem to fit quite nicely. I am probably more balanced between attacking and positional than Alekhine was, but the other criteria (solid, calculating, calm) describe me very well.

"Magician" for me, which in my case is a euphemism for trying to play sharp chess despite poor calculation skills.   Cool
Although the quiz is obviously flawed and meant to be taken in a light-hearted way, i do not believe i could come up with a better one for its purposes.

Assassin here like Bobby Fischer.  Undecided  It is incredible and at the same time not a complete surprise, because Fischer and Kasparov were my heroes in youth, like so many players in the world inspired by their attacking games and personality, when we do not understood chess or the right openings to get started, and I was playing the Najdorf and the KID then, (but 1.d4 too) and today when I was changing my openings (Slav) and thinking in a possibility to play 1.e4, at least in training games for a while, and my general understanding of chess too has changed dramatically in the last two years, this test is saying me that first impressions are very important (Kramnik said something about the style of play in the same way) and after all, the problem was not the understanding of openings, but the understanding of chess in general that improves the knowledge for playing openings too and the style was already there!
  
It has been said that chess players are good at two things, Chess and Excuses.  It has also been said that Chess is where all excuses fail! In order to win you must dare to fail!

Kyle, I don't know that anyone is taking it deeply seriously. I did like that it included evaluations of real positions in the quiz. I found the questions and the breakdown interesting. 

Am I going to go out and tell the world I'm a "magician", a "grinder" or a "champion"? No. Well, "champion" sounds like a great style to have!

Reminds me of Ljubojevic once upon a time saying that he and Larsen, "to the contrary of several other grandmasters," considered Portisch mainly a tactician.

I'm not sure why anyone would be taking this quiz seriously.

Yes, Kramnik is apparently 'intuitive' and not calculating but if you ever listen to his analysis it should be clear that he is one of the best in the world in calculation...

I am either a magician, a grinder, or a champion. I only changed my answers to questions such as "Chess is 99% tactics" do you agree? I have a hard time with that one. For humans, it probably isn't true, but computers are better than any human and play 100% tactical chess. I didn't change my answer to any questions regarding the evaluations of positions. 

I'm surprised that it considers my style to be "attacking" rather than positional, but more or less middle-of-the road in terms of aggression vs solid chess. I suppose it considers my willingness to play gambits as "attacking", but my evaluations as less aggressive. I do agree that I am more "intuitive" than "calculating". But I hated questions that asked whether I would calculate a position or play on general principles. I do both, and I am sure everyone who is serious about chess does both.
