	Mad Scientist. I guess if that is their definition, then it's true. I feel better in counter-attacking positions than playing against a solid turtle or really quiet positional player.

	I once took a Lord of the Rings personality test and it told me I was tied between Gandalf and Gimli. Quote: You are part Gandalf. You are a wise person. 	Mad scientist like Steinitz. My little meter was more to the positional side than attacking, but not by as much as I would guess. By about the same small amount I am more solid than aggressive. The one that confuses me is that it has me really far on the calculating side, but I've always considered myself more intuitive. I just use many short calculations to verify my intuition... It has me as more emotional than calm. As I've gotten older it's been moving more and more towards calm, but damned if I'm not a hothead. The Mad Scientist is capable of carrying out brilliant attacks, but will only do so when he believes it is the right way - he won't normally play speculatively. Mad Scientists are also experimenters, trying different ways to expand the horizons in chess. That, on the other hand, sounds exactly like me. It recommends the Vienna Game and King's Gambit as white. The former I've always had an odd fascination with, the latter not so much. The one place it undoubtedly fails is recommending the black side of the Ruy Lopez. Do. Not. Want.

	Grinding is a state of mind more than chess taste so I very much doubt they could hope to pick it up here.

	Apparently, I'm a chess surgeon, like Lasker! With the way I play, I figure I'm the type of surgeon who gets sued for malpractice regularly. I did find it interesting that they give recommended openings with each. It says I should be playing both sides of the Ruy Lopez. I've played the black side of that some, though not quite as much as the French, and I play 1. e4 as white, but usually stick stick to the old Giuoco Piano against e5. I've considered giving the RL a go as white, and/or playing more open games as black, though not being comfortable in any preferred line of the RL was always a problem for me when I played e5. It also recommends the Orthodox variation of the QGD for me as black against d4. The QGD is another opening I've considered trying out some, having never really played it much, though I haven't picked a variation to try. So it's actually recommending a bunch of openings that I was already thinking of trying out. Coincidence? Or just the fact that it's picking the most popular openings, and I happened to have been thinking of trying some more mainstream stuff?

	Look, they used four dimensions for this quiz: attacking vs. positional, intuitive vs. calculating, emotional vs. calm, and aggressive vs. solid; so there are sixteen possible combinations of extremes. Then they named each combination after a famous player, with comical results. Alekhine is 0% aggressive! Carlsen is 100% attacking! Euwe is 100% tutti-frutti! So just enjoy it as a lark. Agree about Khelmnitsky. I did two books, the first, general book and the tactics book. Fabulous books, at twenty minutes per position great for training analysis skills.

The only one of these "chess self-classification" tests that seemed to have any real validity, to me, was Igor Khmelnitsky's Chess Exam book. I think it was a really wonderful, wonderful book. But even then it didn't try to tell you your personality, just assess what areas of the game you are weak at, etc. For me I think it was spot-on, and I made my final push to Master following a study plan that I devised for myself after diligently going through that book.

	Well self classification is a dangerous business People's self image quite often aren't very accurate. Classifying via subconcious reactions to positions and the like as this questionaiire tries to do should have a better chance of being accurate. You'd have to properly calibrate the answers/questions before it meant much of course.

	Thanks for posting this , I find this sort of stuff really interesting like the classification suggested by Lars Bo Hansen. I was shocked to see I was classified as a Barbarian and closest to Nakamura, so I did the questionnaire again and it still came out the same! I find it very interesting that I only felt any doubt about my answers to 1 or 2 of the questions yet my result has come out so different to what I had expected I always thought of myself as a Theorist under Lars Bo Hansen's classification system i.e. logic over intuition. And principles rather than calculation which he compares to Kramnik , Botvinnik, Tarrasch and Nimzovch. I wonder how does your classification on this Chess.com questionnaire compare with how you would classify yourself under Lars Bo Hansen's ideas?

	Being a prodigy there I have a question: Is this a honour with 60 or is it not? Playing like Magnus Carlssen is describung a little the exact contrary of understatement.

	Medical textbooks say I should be dead since April 2002. Dum spiro spero. Narcissm is the humans primary disease.
