The series by Gustafson on how deal with both the QGD Vienna and Catalan as Black are very good. I don't know how he develops in a live show (like the world championship  match),  but in a thematic opening video series I like his style a lot.

Very true. Gustafsson talks more so that is the only to stop Svidler talking. It was very obvious when Peter was paired with Eric Hansen for a few days.

Nevertheless he explains things very well and has lots of great insights. (Obviously as such a strong GM but he can explain things well.) I didn't like Gustafsson one time but this time I quite enjoyed him playing the ejeat alongside the more serious Svidler.

There may be a catch, because Svidler is quite talkative  Grin

They're currently having an advent calendar promotion thingie - every day, there's a different video series free to watch (I think you need an account still)

Today is https://chess24.com/en/learn/advanced/video/expert-strategy-in-the-endgame/kasim...

Yes. But I'm sure someone who's tech-savvy can also figure out a way to download the embedded vids if you're into the piracy thing (which I'm not).

It's not a piracy thing.

I want my vids offline because I like to see them again and again in my mobile phone. So I did it (capturing only the board and the voice, not the face of the presenter) and the result is way better than being surfing on the page, online, with a browser, tying to maximize/adjust the board to the screen of my 5.5inch phone...

Salut,

I agree. I want to watch them on my phone. But you have to download about every week, or else they are greyed out in my app. Really annoying, a PITA.

seems ok - but, don't like the idea of paying Tongue

I once played a game against a chess hustler in Washington Square. As we sat at the table he said

"Ok, we play for 20 bucks."

I said "no, I know you're going to win."

he replied "Ok, 10 bucks."

I still demurred so he offered to play for 5 bucks.

I asked "Can't we just play for fun?"

He said "Listen buddy. Ain't nothing for free in New York City. 5 bucks, lets go."

So I played him for 5 bucks and inevitably lost. But it was still worth it. A great experience and I learned a lot in the one game. His constant commentary on what I was doing wrong was both enlightening and distracting at the same time.

Perhaps Chess24 should remove its comments box during matches.

You don't need to read it! Click on "Notation" and you don't see it anymore.
Just like any other internet chat, it's terrible; but some people enjoy it so .. let them keep it, you can ignore it quite easily.

Perhaps Chess24 should remove its comments box during matches. Until today anybody could post there resulting in mostly spam, and very little genuine analysis. Today it's premium members only and much of what is being posted appears to be members praising the fact that there is no spam...and still feeling the need to post moves as played rather than allow people to see them made on the board...

Thank you for answering. Here you can buy and download some of them, but I don't think you will get an ebook if the one was added:

I have been a premium member for a while, and like the access to all videos. But a very, very annoying thing is the app. E.g. if I download some video to have it offline, I can only access it for a limited time (think it is a week). After that, I have to download again.

Also, the app is buggy.

Overall, I'd say they get barely ok from me.

Of note is that if you have the mobile app, you can "download" the vids - there's an "Offline Available?" option.
The functionality seems a bit buggy (it appears to "delete" the offline available videos again after a while), but it's still useful for when you want to watch things "on the go" without eating up your data plan.

Not sure whether it works for premium users too (I bought some video series, never been premium).

I'm a premium and this is exactly how it works for me (including deleting the videos without notice after a while).

You can't download the videos. They're only available to stream.

So there is a choice:
- buying premium membership you have access to all vids and ebooks but it's limited and lasts while your subscription lasts;
- when you buy vids/ebooks separately (without premium membership) you have unlimited access to them from your account
- you can't download anything from the site.

Is the above statements correct?
