Thanks so much Proustikeen, Eric and Stefan!  if I go through with this, by the way, I do intend to give credit properly for any analysis obtained from other sources.

Using ChessBase and its cbh format would be a good start for a book which mainly contains annotated games. Since you own CB version 12, no need to discuss the stability of older versions. I am using both CB 8 (it almost never crashes) and CB 11. Remember to back-up.

If you have a possible publisher in mind, take a careful look at a book from that house which comes close to your project. There are editors who expect a bibliography and crediting the sources. It wouldn't hurt to contact that publisher at a certain point, and rather a bit early than too late. Based on a sample chapter, he/they might be willing to discuss a possible contract. You might be surprised to hear about the financial conditions.

If an e-book or self-publishing is an option, consider PagePlus X7, to refine the cbh file into a more professional publication. PagePlus has some abilities to create works in e-publishing formats.

Be sure to use CBH files instead of PGN from the beginning, it'll save some headache later.

Of course, then those Word files have to be converted to camera-ready documents.  But at least one major chess book publisher uses Word for the whole process.. no InDesign or Quark (do people still use Quark?) required.

I think most authors do their analysis in CB and then dump the games out to Word (via rtf files).

Manuscript for submission

Hello. I am considering writing up a draft of a book, and I would be very grateful if some of the posters here who are published authors can advise me on what tools they use to create manuscripts.

In particular, I would like to know whether it is feasible to use ChessBase for this purpose. I have ChessBase 12. The book under consideration would mostly be in the form of annotated games. There might be an e-book in addition to a printed version.

Thanks,
ReneDescartes
