Somewhat OT, but when I was reviewing 9.Nd2 I somewhat preferred variations with ...Ne8, e.g. 14...Ne8 in this line.

At a quick glance I didn't find anything wrong with Kotronias' analysis there.  Grin

Hello

Anyone is free to analyse "this" to a draw if they want to.

Also I must say providing exact moves is almost a must if people are to understand what variations are being referred to.

Have a nice day.

The specific, final, position on move 40 in that last bit of stuff? I really don't see how black can get that rearrangement.

Black has to take on f4, and then white has a nice choice of running his king to h6 and eating the kingside, or menacing a very nasty Rf7+ to stop it.

Think you'll have to defend without the black rook. Even if that is possible I'd be really worried about getting checkmated somewhere as black.

Of course, I rather doubt if black had to get his pieces in that nasty tangle in the first place!

I'll put my kind to d7 and the rook at the kingside. When the White rook abandons the c-file i'll play ...c6 and create 3 passed pawns while your remaining pawn queens at the wrong square. I see absolutely no scenario where Black loses this. Can you give me one please?  Smiley

In practical play? Looks a horrible experience for black.

The rook on a7 really isn't where you want it (I guess this might be avoidable earlier) and the pawns can't be liquidated so white can go on and on and on.

Might get a draw out of it, but you'll suffer for it and every now and then you won't - say when white manages to arrange a not impossible mating net.

Your last comment makes no sense to me. I think Black is fine. In genera, inl this kind of positions you cannot rely on the output of the machine on "infinite analysis" mode. An engine tournament, or a Monte Carlo analysis is something that will give you much more usefull info. This is an easy draw.

Hello

I have now done some analysis on the continuation (28.Rh2 Qf5 29.Nd2). White looks like he can avoid black's best fortress formations, but his advantage is of moderate proportions.

Have a nice day.

Hello.

This evening I checked alternatives to the line (28.Rh2 Qf5 29.Nd2). I will put something together on that later.

Hello.

In your main line, after ...Qxd2 and then putting the rooks to f4 (via f8) and a4 i can see no way forward for White, while Black can at least put his king to f6 and maybe push his pawns... He cannot achieve much with that, but at least i don't see Black losing!

This setup seems quite reasonable for black. Defending the c4 pawn with two rooks from behind feels sad and progress from there on becomes difficult (I couldn't see anything obvious either). On the other hand white does not really want to lose c4 because then he is getting quite low on pawns and black can start playing for liquidation.

Analysis to come...

Have a nice day.

I don't see the easy draw for black after 26...Qxh4.  My guess is that white will post up a knight on e4 and swing his queen's rook to the kingside.  White can keep his bishop on b2 to protect the a-pawn if he chooses.  Will Black want to keep a rook on the a-file just in case.  I doubt that Black can afford it.  Perhaps White will double rooks on the h-file.

Guys, i see no problems at all after the above mentioned 25.g4. For starters 26...Qxh4 in the above pgn seems like an easy draw for Black. In practical play he can even have good winning chances.

The books are quite informative as are the other Quality Chess books I have...Marin's English series come to mind as superb

I have few complaints about the informative quality of Kotronias two Mar Del Plata books too.

I've been using Chess Opening Explorer and it has found a few transpositions that Kotronias and the editors did not notice.  If I find any that are noteworthy I will try to post them here for those that are interested.

Ok good. I guess there are ample lines in Kotronias books that allows this kind of search (many long lines with mostly unforcing play).

Have a nice day.
