Something like 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 Bb4 4.e3 e5 5..Ne2 cxd4 6.exd4. My point was that White can't count on any such option appearing often in the Nimzo complex.

Against the Dutch...there is usually an "exchange" after I play e4, and Black usually loses (not for theoretical reasons). The difference between an exchange and a break!

Against the QGA play 3. e3 and transpose into a French Exchange.    Cool

I wasn't aware of that transpostion. Nice.

Yes, I think we can call this the Neo-Old Indian exchange variation

Ah Yes, the e4 transposition exchanges  Smiley

What line were you thinking of in the Nimzo, Rene?

Nothing I can think of for the Dutch. I guess that's why black plays it for the win!

Except why play the Panov when you can play...the Exchange!

The Gruenfeld Exchange can be used to try to get an endgame, mainline or not (Be3). But the symmetrical Gruenfeld has something of the flavor of the Slav Exchange (which I too play for a win). On the other hand, White can't force Black to play ...c6, so maybe it doesn't count. And there's no Nimzo-complex Exchange (until much later)!

Just some idle musing on a lazy Sunday...

1. Queen's Gambit Declined Exchange Variation. Yep, good one.

2. Grunfeld Exchange Variation. OK, dive into some mainline stuff

3. Slav Exchange Variation. I'm playing it for a win, honest, I don't just want a day off  Smiley

4. KID Exchange variation. Well if you want to ruin a KID player's day  Smiley

Hmm, this might be a real thing. Any more that can be added?
