You might need a translater.

I used Chrome to translate it. It's still hard to understand and it doesn't really explain what caused the problem.

Interesting...I don't believe I saw this one before. Maybe I did and forgot about it. The thing is it's been two years since that article and yet the situation still hasn't been resolved. It really doesn't make any sense...at least to me it doesn't.

I believe that they had a serious problem with Rublevsky and while he coaches the team are refusing to play.

I found an article from 2013 including an interview: http://en.chessbase.com/post/kosintseva-sisters-abandon-the-ruian-women-s-team

You would have to ask them. Clearly they were not happy about something! And that something appears to not have been addressed yet.

Not necessarily. I remember that possibility has been floated around for a year (Maybe two?) and nothing has come of it yet. It could be they were only hoping to put pressure on the Russian Federation for some changes by making those remarks. Or that chess is just not their main focus at the moment.

But this brings up why did they have a problem with the coaching to the point that they literally dropped out of the team? That's pretty extreme if you ask me. The Kosintseva sisters were the best members of the Russian women's team, numbers 1 and 2 if I remember correctly. It's the equivalent to Mick Jagger and Keith Richards dropping out of the Rolling Stones because they had a problem with management.

There's something happening here, but what it is ain't exactly clear.

If I could "like" this post, I would!

Anyway:

I've known at least one sister to be living in the US since last November when I played in the UTD Fall Open. It's not a huge surprise. And while the sisters are no longer playing for the Russian national team, nowhere have I heard that they have switched federations.

Looking up their profiles on FIDE's website seems to verify this - they are both listed under the Russian Federation.

They've been quoted as saying they were thinking of changing chess federations. Maybe they were quoted incorrectly?

So far I think this thread may be the most informative on the mysterious absence of the Kosintseva sisters in the chess world. But given that they're one of the only few women in the chess world, with the Muzychuks being the other ones, sisters playing chess who happen to be some of the best in the world...I'm surprised news of them since the split from the Russian women's chess team has been under the radar for so long. You'd think the well known chess sites would at least give a passing mention about well known chess players like this. So I can't help but be very surprised at this turn of events on this particular story.

I would be very surprised to see news about the Kosintseva sisters possibly playing under the US chess team...if that happens at all. But I think what will make such a development even odder is none of this would have been necessary if things hadn't gotten out of hand between the Kosintseva sisters and the Russian chess team and its handlers. So any new development on the Kosintseva sisters and their future in chess can only point back to the situation that caused this split between them and the Russian women's chess team. But news about one of them now residing in the US is a pretty big development. Would be interesting to know about Tatiana Kosintseva's situation as well.

If both Kosintseva sisters do play for the US Women's chess team (assuming this dream scenario even becomes reality) either of them should be named captain of the women's team, no questions asked. A theoretical match between the US and Russia with the Kosintseva sisters at the Chess Olympiad on the US side would be a highly charged event and very closely watched.

Issues with Rublevsky, the Russian team coach who clearly upset them both, as happened couple of years back.
Interesting if one or both were to transfer. With both, suddenly, USA would have a world class women's team too, though not too many therein 'home-grown'.
Own goal for Russia if they kept a coach but lost key players - half the team.
Well, we'll see.
