Recently, candidates for the worst chess books were mentioned in another thread.
I would like to know which chess books are your favourite ones!
Probably the books should be divided into categories because there are IMO so many good books.
In general, I'm very fond of books from Quality Chess and love when books contain a lot of good exercises. However, currently I'm reading Dvoretsky's new book Recognizing Your Opponent's Resources and I'm just thrilled. Today, I'm starting the exercises in the last chapter Prophylactic Thinking. The book has excited me so much that I've neglected opening preparation and not read the newest issue of NIC before my next tournament which starts on Friday!
Opening: Marin's books on the English. Avrukh's book on the Slav.
Game collection: Karolyi's books on Karpov's Strategic Wins
Puzzle books: Franco's Giant Chess Puzzle Book
Middlegame: The above-mentioned Dvoretsky book. Also find the Grandmaster Preparation series fantastic, especially Positional Play and Strategic Play. Yusupov's green books are very good too but it is mentally tough to have "chess exams" all the time.
Endgame: Marin's Learn from the Legends and Villa's 100 endgames you must know. Dvoretsky's Endgame Manual is too tough for me; hopefully I will enjoy it within a few years.
DVDs: Pert's DVD on the Solid Slav and Costa's ABC of the English. Haven't seen very many dvd's but find that these two are very good when time is limited. For Christmas some very nice dvd's are just waiting to be opened
