2...a6 3.Nc3 e6 4.d4 cxd4 5.Nxd4 b5 scores well.
These days 2...e6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 a6 5.Bd3 is prescribed.

Avoiding Open Sicilian Side-lines

It seems annoying to learn special lines vs. e.g.

2. ..a6  O'Kelly
2. ..Nf6 Nimzowitsch
2. ..b6

With White playing a Nc3 based repertoire, i.e. no Maroczy binds vs e.g. Kan and Accelerated Dragon, it seems this stuff can be avoided with 3. Nc3

Also lines like the Pin and the Basman-Sale can be avoided with

2. ..e6 3. Nc3

Are there any ways players of these side-lines as Black advantageously avoid transposing back into
a mainline Sicilian?

Those who want to go by my perverse footsteps play such pawn structure with fuzzy atypical still strategic orientations
