	I'm really interested in a discussion of "Small Steps to Giant Improvement" and "Small Steps 2 Success". It specializes in pawn play in particular and looks like it delves pretty deep (two whole books on pawns!), which greatly differs from the general middlegame outlook of "Simple Chess" and the Silman's books.

	Serendipity! Just this past Thursday I finished "Simple Chess." This book came out in 1982 (IIRC) by GM Michael Stean who later left competitive chess for a career in business. It was reissued in an algebraic edition (and some editorial revisions) in 2003. It assumes only a novice-level chess understanding and is by many accounts the finest intro to middlegame chess ever published. It has fallen a little off the radar due to age but I was swept away by it. It lays out the basics of positional middlegame play and explains plainly WHY this or that is desirable or not. I felt gob-smacked by it. I took detailed notes all the way through this slim volume and intend to make them a permanent part of my personal chess "hoard" of knowledge. I can't recommend it highly enough. It has been mentioned before here before in various older threads. 	Hi Mtal, I don't know about Small Steps Book but there is book called "How to Reassess your chess" by IM Jeremy Silman which focuses on middlegame planning meant for 1400-2100 rating level.It has got great reviews, you can also find a you tube video review on this book. While the above book is on laying the foundation for planning but if you are looking to improve your tactics you can always use Lichess Puzzle Trainers which is absolutely free and Chess.com Puzzle Trainer( but you require atleast a Platinum Membership for this on Chess.com).

	Hi all, Anyone have the Small Steps books? Just wondering, how are they? What do they exactly cover?Are they a drop everything and read this kind of book? Are there othere books out there that covers what these books are on? Dobyou feel they helped your game? Looking to get better at my middle game play and was considering these. Thanks for any advice.
