IIRC, I think AOC also commented once he did not feel challenged by the book. I think it likely many might agree. I found a very abrupt change in difficulty came at problem #1471 and onwards. Not that it is horrifically hard: just a progression to a different solving method. It becomes less about check and/or sac/then mate, and more about black's king is all but trapped but any move by white frees him. How best to first release, then reform the mating net? (That is my way of putting it anyway). A lot of fun. So I think the book is progressive and repetitive of patterns and that this was one way to drill his daughters. I only do 6 a day after breakfast since I began the mate-in-two chunk. It should take about 2 1/2 years to do the whole 5334. But I don't mind as I study other chess subjects as well; it's a part of the package. Why rush? I also do 10 free puzzles on Lichess in bed each night and those are much easier.

[Although there are reports Gary K. tried other ways to drill them.]

@cathexis: I think all the training positions used for starting out his daughters were in the 5334 book, which was maybe developped afterwards. He was very dedicated to training methods, as shown by his Wikipedia page.
He made a convincing case that genius can emerge with the right training at the right moment, as did Leopold Mozart with young Wolfgang and Maria Anna.

@ Kerangali,

Um, that was not the answer I was looking for. Are you saying that the 5334 book *was* the list of training positions Polgar used for his daughters? Or that those particular training positions are *included* within the book? If so, which ones? If those positions were published, but not published in the 5334 book, do you know where? My initial post was not this specific, so my bad if I was not clear.

TIA

Were those any of the problems/combinations in the 5334 book?

Exactly. Don't consider them as "only useful for beginners since advanced players can solve more complex problems" but as "What I need to imprint in my mind so that they come out as single moves when I need them in a calculation".
re use of tactics, there's a great difference between seeing a mate pattern and e.g. winning a piece or pawn. I realized that after watching an online rapid game between Firouzja and (iirc) Navara. Firouzja was lost but saw a long line possibly ending in mate; he went for it and his opponent fell for the swindle.

Because of the network architecture of new Stockfish versions.... is it necessary to compare analysis with Leela already?

I've never installed Leela myself. Are the results very different from one or other engine?

Thx

Due to the organization design of new Stockfish versions.... is it important to contrast the investigation and Leela as of now?

I've never introduced Leela myself. Are the outcomes totally different from either motor?

Much appreciated   Kiss

By playing Chess sets Uk you can improve Works on mental abilities (counting focus, design acknowledgment, independent direction, arithmetical and mathematical reasoning, critical thinking, spatial thinking, and decisive reasoning). Plus it will also help in the improvement of fearlessness and self-esteem. Increments ability to focus. Increments memory limit.

Can you give an exact url for this website or tool? I see nothing of the kind.

I think Lazlo Polgar (the father) used a similar method for training his 3 daughters, with tremendous results. He published his training positions. They were not on the verge of difficult but rather exemplary and well thought-of (= memorable). Perhaps this is best for pattern recognition, which is the base of chess tactics ability.

This year, the book Cognitive Chess: Improving Your Visualization and Calculation Skills was published. It has 500 exercises that have to be solved blindfold. Besides that, it has 250 exercises, where there are diagrams.

For me this type of visualisation is really difficult but I enjoy solving the exercises/puzzles.

I have done about 300 of the 750 exercises. The "problem" is that they get tougher. Another player in my club who is stronger than me finds that they are on the verge of being too tough but he has also done about 500 of the exercises.

I could imagine that this is one of the books that actually can help players get stronger in the visualisation area.

Do you have any experience with this book or other books using a similar method for improving calculation/visualisation?
