an ordinary chess player:
I am not sure of what you mean
are you saying thsi is not interesting for some reason that i was unable to see
is it because Houdini "is known to be" a clone of Stockfish?

in fact, i dont intend to start a match between these engines
the reason why I asked is that I have several old
games (engine matches from several positions) between
S9, S10 and S12 and Houdini 6 and would like to know what would be the "fair" competition

thanks

A match between Houdini 6 and Stockfish Y would not be interesting. Search the web for "Houdini vs Stockfish" to find out why.

Houdini Version history is here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Houdini_(chess)

Stockfish Version history is here: ??

Well, not so easy to find. But you can scroll through Git.hub "newest release" postings here as listed by date backwards:

https://github.com/official-stockfish/Stockfish/releases?page=1

How can I check my SF version? Here:

https://chess.stackexchange.com/questions/12762/how-can-i-check-the-stockfish-ve...

This last link is old and I am not sure it is still forward compatible through all subsequent vers. from 6 onwards. SF didn't start out as Stockfish which complicated things. The latest dates for Houdini are 2017, I think. Again, not helpful for your purposes perhaps.

Hope this helps!

Hi

Does anyone know what are the versions of Stockfish
that correspond to Houdini 6,5 and 4
I mean developped more or less at the same time,
so that a match between Houdini X and Stockfish Y
would make sense

tks,
