cathexis had a reasonable guess. I don't see any issues with the tags you showed, but maybe it's how you are filling in the search box.

I use Scid instead of Scid vs PC, from what I know the search boxes are different, so I can offer only general help. Below is my troubleshooting suggestion.

When I open the PGN in ScidVsPC ...

You can open the PGN, or you can import it. Try creating a new scid-format database and importing your PGN file.
  1. I believe Scid vs PC (not Scid) will give an error message if it doesn't like any of the existing PGN tags. It's not supposed to drop them silently like Scid does. If you don't get any error messages, then you can rule out any problems with the data.
  2. You might get more functions available for a scid-format database than for a PGN-format database. Can you now search the scid-format database okay? But of course you should be able to search for extra tags in a PGN-format database, and Scid does it fine.

Just a guess, not a user - but are you using the quotes ("") in the search? It might then see the quotes as comments with what's between the quotation marks as to be ignored. Just a random thought.

Any one who uses the database program ScidVsPC here?

I have a problem. I have a PGN files with custom header fields like [Opening "Sicilian"], [Variation "Najdorf"], [ID "88"] and similar. When I open the PGN in ScidVsPC it seems that the program strips all non-standard tags and a search for the tag Opening, value Sicilian gives zero hits despite several such games are present in the file. What do I do wrong?
