Chessbase vs. Chess Assistant (and others) in 2026

Does anyone have any experience with the recent versions of Chess Assistant?  How does it compare with Chessbase and other alternatives in 2026?  Does anyone still use it?  5 or 6 years ago Chess Assistant seemed like a competitive tool that some people liked more than Chessbase as it (and Chess Aquarium) had some unique tools but also both had a steep learning curve to use the more advanced tools.

I'm a Chessbase user and considering an upgrade from a very old version of Chessbase so I want to see what is out there these days (including online alternatives to Chessbase) before purchasing the current version of Chessbase.

By way of background, I'm not a chess professional or trainer but simply a Class A / Expert level amateur.  As such some of the more obscure functions might not make a difference for me that might be meaningful for more advanced users.  I use databases for repertoire management and updating (no heavy opening theory work) and also use it for storing and reviewing my games.  I also store and organize study material but realize there are many other ways to do that.
