I don't know what move order concerns you.

The first move order you provide, 1. d4 d5 2. c4 e6 3. Nf3 Nf6 4. Nc3 Be7 5. g3, is not common but has the merit of eliminating black lines with ...Bb4ch. On the other hand, black may not play 4...Be7

GM Eljanov has a data base at modern-chess which proceeds from your move order. 1. d4 d5 2. c4 e6 3. Nf3 Nf6 4. Nc3 Be7 5. g3, now ...O-O 6. Bg2 dc4 7. Ne5 c5 8. dc5 Qd1 9. Nd1 Bc5. He describes this position as a tabyia and considers several alternatives.

There have been several repertoires that try to address 1d4, 1Nf3, 1c4. Some try for a universal system. Those that attempt a universal system are only partially successful, in my opinion. For example, the Tarrasch Defense can be used for a universal line, but adds new variations! The same applies to the Slav defense. There are also lines that resemble the Nimzo-Indian or Queen's Indian.

Hello,

I recently picked up the Queen's Gambit declined as black with a FIDE rating at 1900.

Arriving at the Catalan'ish via the QGD move order:

1. d4 d5 2. c4 e6 3. Nf3 Nf6 4. Nc3 Be7 5. g3

Against proper Catalan move order, I use a simple line:

1. d4 d5 2. c4 e6 3. Nf3 Nf6 4. g3 dxc4 5. Bg2 c5 6. O-O Nc6

Is there some universal way of handling the Nf3, Nc3 and Nf3+Nc3 move order into the Catalan that is solid? Perhaps a book that would cover this?

Thanks.
