Perhaps he relied on Houska having done the checking...

It looks like he also missed the Kaissibier issue on the Scandinavian, which I guess is fair enough since that was in German. But there was an update in Bücker's "Over the Horizons" column on chesscafe.com that he also does not list. Oh, well...

Ok, I'll try not to beat it to death. The reason I kept repeating it was because every time I tried to explain this point to Qualitychess they just didn't understand.

Finally someone agrees with me!

MNb, your statement "I have always found it annoying to buy a book and see a line (more or less) refuted by a recommendation in an older but easily accessible book, which obviously has been neglected by the author" is exactly the point I'm trying to make!

I also agree with MNb that you don't have to go back to the first edition of Bilguer but all recent sources like "Opening for White According to Anand" should be used.

And I agree with your point as well. It's just that you have repeated it like 4200 times on this forum and on QC.

State the point, but don't beat it to death please.

This time I agree. I have always found it annoying to buy a book and see a line (more or less) refuted by a recommendation in an older but easily accessible book, which obviously has been neglected by the author.
OK, I don't expect an author to go back to the first edition of the Bilguer. Leaving out Opening for White According to Anand is a serious shortcoming though.

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

It’s very disappointing to see the bibliography of “Play the Scandinavian” is so short. There could be critical analysis in White repertoire books, such as "Opening for White According to Anand", missing from the book because these sources weren't used. Even if there isn't critical analysis missing, using White repertoire books and putting them on the bibliography wouldn't leave us wondering if there is critical analysis missing. As James Vigus says in the introduction of his excellent book “The Pirc in Black and White” “I pay special attention to the lines recommended for White in the major repertoire books”. It’s disappointing to see more and more Qualitychess books getting published without all relevant sources being consulted. Maybe the rest of you are ok with this but I am not.

Jacob Aagaard deleted this when I wrote it on the Quality blog saying I was antagonising him but this is not true. All I'm trying to do is help Qualitychess make there books better. I think one of the best ways to do this is to use all relevant sources.

For what it's worth, the book is due to be released in August.

I'm expecting this book to be very good since Bauer's previous books 'Play 1...b6' and 'The Phillidor Files' were both excellent.

I could recommend a couple of solutions too, but you may be upset (Caps bother you, so never mind other things) perhaps 4000+ posts here are like ICC's % of life spent in the forum  Wink , food for thought

I'll just go for a nice glass of iced water...  Smiley

3.Nf3 g6!? is not that bad, recently I had problems as white
(by Epishin sometimes via 1.Nf3 g6 2.e4 d5 3.exd5 Qxd5)

To begin the chess discussion...

After 1.e4 d5 2.ed5 Qd5 3.Nf3, does Bauer consider alternatives to 3...Nc6 and 3...Bg4? Both these moves offer Black good counterplay and in fact are my personal preferences as Black, but I'm interested to know if Bauer offers any additional options for Black or explains why he views the alternatives as inferior.

Gents next time message the user in question or the mod which in this case would be me.

Saves all of us a lot of trouble and annoyment.

He's fairly new, couldn't we just write each other privately and request this?  This was only his 7th post...kind of different if it was his 700th... just a suggestion.  He seems excited about the book! Smiley
