Hi Andy,

Why is it not possible to play 4. ... c6 instead of 4. ... Bg4 in the line you mention, intending Bf5 etc. as in the main lines?  Is there a disadvantage to playing this way?

I loved the accelerated dragon video by the way, please keep them coming!

"1)  3...Bg4 is possible,intending ...Nc6,0-0-0,maybe ...e5

This is a very sharp line which has to be learned "

This is good line from my point of view. I had great success with this plan also recomended by Luis Galego. The idea is to either sucrifice on h3 after castling if white would dare to move h3 pawn or e7-e5-e4 crushing White position  I won about 10 fast 15+ move games with this variation against USCF 1800-2200 opposition. I also received winning position in blitz against IM Dinamit on ICC according to my Fritz analysis but eventully made a blunder.

                                    Thanks, Alex.

Hi Ralf,

I guess in the latter line 8. Bb3 is good for white protecting the b pawn.

Hi Andrew,
this is what i felt listening to your video. I agree with Wahls recommending the Lg4 variation.
I wonder about another recommantation in your video:
The Qb6 Move which is very interessing and I think very good.
But you recommend this only as move 6. like in the game Beliavsky - Schveditkov:
1.e4 d5 2.exd5 Qxd5 3. Nc3 Qa5 4.d4 Nf6 5.Nf3 c6 6.Ld2 Qb6
Why not also Qb6 also as move seven?
1.e4 d5 2.exd5 Qxd5 3. Nc3 Qa5 4.d4 Nf6 5.Nf3 c6 6.Bc4 Bf5 7.Ld2 Qb6
This avoids the Ne4 variation from white.
By the way: I enjoyed your video very much. thx
Greetings
ralf

Wahls devotes 5 chapters in his book to the position after 3.Nf3 Bg4. This looks like the best response though it does have to be learned. Just like to take the chance to thank IM Andrew Martin for his books and videos over the years. Always entertaining and informative!

    Hello everyone,

I've found 3 Nf3 to be a little awkward for Black.

    A very recent game from the British 4NCL vs IM Ferguson went 3...Nf6 4 d4 Bg4 5 Be2 e6 6 Bf4!? Qd8 7 0-0 Be7 8 c4 0-0 9 Qb3! Qc8 10 Nc3 Nbd7 11 Rad1 a6 12 Rfe1 Re8 and Black was worse although this is a manageable disadvantage and Black eventually won when White overpressed and ran into time trouble.

It should work better than this.

So, I had two thoughts after this experience :

1)  3...Bg4 is possible,intending ...Nc6,0-0-0,maybe ...e5

This is a very sharp line which has to be learned

2)  3...g6!? idea 4 Nc3 Qd8 5 d4 Bg7 ( 5...Nh6!? idea Nf5 etc,hitting d4 )  and just play this position.

     What do others think ?

      Andrew
