The Franco - Benoni from  Don Maddox
2003
ChessBase http://www.chessbase.com ;
E-Mail info@chessbase.com
Price Euro 24.99
Chessbase Reader 7 included, system requirements 32 MB, Windows 95/98/2000/ME/XP  & CD ROM drive.

The Franco Benoni from  Don Maddox is a real off beat repertoire opening where black is balancing
between the French and Benoni defence, both based on the classical  moves from the French
and Sicilian defence.
Anyway this CD is a perfect choice for players who are searching a way to avoid al main lines and are willing
to take some risk, special after the moves  1.e4 e6 2.d4 c5 3.d5! ?
Which reminds me by  the way  at the old chess books from Gunderam and his New -Eroffnungswege-.
The material from Don Maddox on this CD is compressive  first of all  it covers a master file from about 13598 games where a small 853 of them are analysed.
One of the most pleasent lines that I could find for black on this CD was 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 e6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Bc5!?
The whole Franco Benoni trainings  file is good for 35 exercises, included on this openings CD is the CTG openings tree and the free ChessBase reader.
Conclusion: A nice made off beat CD

Isn't this in John Emm's Benoni section with ECO code A43? He probably hasn't annotated a lot of games with this (or maybe not even any) but it is a very minor line, and normally transposes into something else. I guess if someone was really interested in these positions they could always ask John about a specific variation. Smiley

Forgot the link to some more info about that opening CD... here it is: http://www.chessbase.com/shop

By the way, is such a system (Franco-Benoni) covered anywhere else or it's a pretty brand new kind of things?

Just found out that ChesBase produced the opening CD with Don Maddox called "Franco-Benoni." !! I never heard of such a system. They say it's a cross between the French and the Benoni based on 1…e6 and 2…c5. It sounds interesting and promising to me as a French player but when I checked ChessPublishing I only found one remotely related game with minor comments. Just wanted to let you know that there is such a system that you might try and it might be a good idea for ChessPublishing Masters to start covering this system.

It looks like broad systems like KIA and Frenko-Benoni (use one against anything) start popping up a bit that do not have any particular opening line but instead using a setup. I think it's about time for chess world to add another section to ECO as X Wink where they will be covering all those opening that are intersectional. Well, maybe not right now but it might be a hint Wink
