I think the problem with the Chinese attack is that Black more viable defences against it than other variations, and might still be able to get away with a balls on the table (5. ...0-0) approach too.

When this variation was covered by ChessPlublishing, the following games were referenced...

5... Na6 Katalymov-Tseitlin Daugavpils 1978
5... Nc6 Hjertenes, O-Mortensen, Haifa 1976
5... h6 Zapolskis, A-Fridman, Liepaya 2004
5... Nfd7  Charpentier, W-Georghiou, Dubai 1986

And we're still got 5. ...c5 and maybe some others.

I like the look of the Fridman game.

Those who want to go by my perverse footsteps play such pawn structure with fuzzy atypical still strategic orientations

What do you think of the Chinese Attack
1. e4 d6 2. d4 Nf6 3. Nc3 g6 4. Be2 Bg7 5. g4
I think it looks like a brilliant move
The point is to not do berserk, but after you play 6. g5 Nd7 to develop normally with Be3, Qd2 and 0-0-0, and White has a good attack lined up.  Grin

Not a bad idea at all, and playable for sure, but unfortunately today not many players are so creative early in the game.
Some suggestions for black (not computer checked)

5...h6!? keeping  the knight safe on f6 before acting in the center, and if 6 Be3 then 6...c5, for example 7dc5 Qa5 8Qd3 (with the trap 8...Nxe4? 9Qb5+ winning) 8...Nxg4! and if 8 Bxg4 Bxg4 9exd6 simply exd6 and if 10Qb5+Nc6 looks very good for black)

5...c5!? 6 g5 (6dc5 Qa5) 6...Nfd7 7d5! and now I would like to make 7...b5 work but probably it is wiser to prepare it with normal benoni moves like Na6-c7, Rb8... (7...b5 8Bxb5 Qa5 9.Bd2 Ba6 10a4! is what I don´t like)

Probably my preference would be 5...h6.

I think that he wanted to play c4 (as he did) to make space (c5 square) for his knight. I took the pawn which lead to sacrificing my rook winning!

Nice game. The Chinese Attack rocks! Not sure what Black was thinking of with 5...Na6 though

I tested the Chinese variation against Chessmaster 8000. Suprisingly, he castled and he wasn't able to avoid being defeated after only 37 moves! If you wanna see that game I posted in the subject "Humiliating the chess programs".

Probably - but you are thinking of playing a 150 Attack, and if Black is worth his salt he will already be booked up on that. 5. g4 is relatively sound and surprising for Black - chances are he would be expecting a boring Classical Pirc after 5. Nf3, and he could easily make a mistake.

Interesting line indeed but, forgive me if I say anything stupid, wouldn't be better Be3, Qd2, O-O and now (or in the prenious move) g4? I mean that we are losing one tempo by playing now 5.g4 and the extra move that we will need later in order to castle may be devastating, as black will have already castled and will force the opening of the center.
