NJ's chess forum (Peter Tamburro) gives full analysis of game: Prasad-Lputian,Isle of Man International 2003.

Look at: http://njscf.proboards2.com/index.cgi?board=amate&action=display&thread=11298126...

I add that Shirov prefers 9.Qd1! (instead of 9.Qf3): Shirov's book "Fire on Board 2"

Some time back, I read that despite being a positional line, 6...b6 is in a crisis because of a particular game. I don't remember the game or even where I read it.  Any help out there? I'll also be searching.

A novelty in a line of such depth and complexity as the French Winawer will have good practical success below about 2300 elo if you have fully researched it.  However, that success will quickly wear off if you rely too heavily on it.  6...b6!? is a line that will yield good results for quite a while as long as you have an antidote to Shirov's commentary and game.  But you probably will also have to invest significant analysis time to alternatives because 6...b6 doesn't look like a long-term solution to Black's problems.

I bought Shirov's book two months ago (french written and with Shirov's dedicace) ... and some comments in the analysis are very interesting. Finally, b6!? is a quite good system for Black.

Shirov, in his book "Fire on Board II" gives Rh7 a "!?" and writes that 12. Qa4 is the real mistake and gives 12.c5!.  If anybody else wants to talk about this game on the position I'd be gald to.  I want an easily digestable line of the Winawer and I think this is how I'll play.

David R.Sands'analysis in Washington Times web site is given at the following URL: http://washingtontimes.com/arts/20031017-080129-9034r.htm ;
I must admit I have a bad feeling about Rh7?! too. About Attalik, I don't know is "turkish" is now accurate since the slovenian born GM seems to be going back to Slovenia.

Thank you for the information...I will search for the analysis and try to compare with other lines with b6!? (not so early but after Nf3-h6)

It looks like 12.Qf3 is indeed a novelty. This game is analysed in Chess Today 1071, where they also mention the Sabas-Plessen game, which is also the only other game I have in my database.

I don't want to give too much CT analysis here, but they mention 10...Qd7 as being Smirin-Ehlvest Biel 1993 (1/2, 16), and give 14...c5 a ? recommending instead 14...Kf8.

What's your feeling about Ivkov's try 6..b6!? in Winawer ?
I start the topic because of recent game Shirov-Atalik,Plovdiv round 2 European Teams champion ship:
1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. Nc3 Bb4 4. e5 Ne7 5. a3 Bxc3+ 6. bxc3 b6 7. Qg4 Ng6 8. h4 h5 9. Qg3 Ba6 10. Ne2 Rh7 11. Bg5 Qd7 12. Qf3 Qa4 13. Ng3 Bxf1 14. Kxf1 c5 15.Nf5 Qc4+ 16. Kg1 exf5 17. Qxf5 Nd7 18. e6 Nf6 19. Re1 Qxc3 20. exf7+ Kxf7 21.Qe6+ Kf8 22. Rh3 Qxd4 23. Rf3 Nxh4 24. Rf4 Qc3 25. Bxh4 Rh6 26. Re5 Qd2 27.Bxf6 1-0
The line seems obscure and rarely played,but there seems to be some positional advantages to play the line as Black: exchanging so-called bad bishop and keeping the opportunity to long castle (see Kf8 lines versus Qg4). Obviously Shirov doesn't matter and sacrifice a knight to attack.
Is 12.Qf3!? a novelty ? I have only one game Sabas,J-Plessen,K ICC blitz with 12.a4
