As it turns out i found the database with the 6 games that continue with 12. d6.  So the move is not a TN, but I would like to point out that white has an overall plus score in the six games.

In response to your message i would like to say after 12. d6 f6 13. Be3.  I don't think black can win the pawn that easily.  White can protect the pawn with Rd1 and other moves as well.  In some cases the advanced pawn can put pressure on black.  Anyway, i expected this kind of reply.  The move does look dubious and it does look like black could win the pawn.  However, the only thing I am trying to say is that in practice the pawn isn't so easy to win, and occasionly the advanced pawn can put pressure on black.  Also, black almost certainly won't be prepared for this move.

No, it's not a TN.  It's been played at least 6 other times in actual practice.  (Compared to at least 747 times of Bc4.)

However, the reason why it hasn't been played often is because it's just bad...all it does is weaken the d-pawn which can be won easily.  Where's the logic in that?

In your line, 12.d6 h6?? is a giant blunder.  No need for that, instead 12. ... f6 13.Be3 and black has all the time in world to snatch the pawn.  All the chances to black.

I don't know what computer you have that's rating this as better for white...I hope you don't rely too much on computers anyway.   Roll Eyes

Hi, lately I have been employing a new move in the KID which i belive is a TN.  After 1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 g6 3. Nc3 Bg7 4. e4 0-0 5. Nf3 d6 6. Be2 e5 7. dxe5 dxe5 8. Qxd8 Rxd8 9. Bg5 Re8 10. Nd5 Nxd5 11. cxd5 c6. 12. d6!  Normally white continues 12. Bc4 cxd5 13. Bxd5 and then black can choose from Na6, Nc6, Nd7.  However, I believe the move 12. d6! is just as good, if not better.  my comp rates this position as +.3 for white, and I have had much success with this line in practice. I feel there is compensation for the deeply IQP(12. d6! h6 13. Be7 Be6 14 0-0, Rc1 Rd1 ect.). Also, there are 0 games with the move 12. d6 in my database.  Is that because no one thought of the move before or because everyone dismissed it?
I would really appreciate your comments.
Has anyone played this line from either side?
Have I created a great TN or am I out of my mind?
