Hello,

The position after move 7 has transposed to the famous Schlecter v Lasker game, which went on with 7...Na6. Kasparov annotates the game, and recommends immediate c5. Think he reffers to Euwe recommending p*p,and then nd7 preparing c5 or c5 straight-away.
White's move order was not so hot objectively, because you could have equalised easily with Bf5, like you say.

Bye John S

I just played a game which went:

1.d4 d5 2.c4 c6 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.e3  And I remembered some analysis by Keres that shows 4....Bf5 to be bad because of 5.cd5 ed5 (Nd5 is probably better but not very good) 6.Qb3! making similar threats as what didn't happen in the famous Janowsky-Capablanca game that Capa won in fine positional style after White refused to win a pawn.

So I decided to play 4...g6 5.Qc2 Bg7 6.Nf3 0-0 7.Bd3

And now I was truly on my own.  I needed to win, so I had been refraining from ...Bf5 ideas.  I tried instead: 7...Nbd7 8.0-0 Re8 9.b3?! e5! 10.e4? exd4 and won by move 25.  My question is this:

I don't know if 7...Nbd7 fully met the requirements of the position.  What experience do you have with this, and how would you play it? (From either side.)

(I know that the Schlechter Slav is also considered a Grunfeld, but since the move order here is clearly Slavic I decided to post here.)
