Hello,

I like the b6 approach, as does Simon Williams in his book. Apparantly the lastest approach involves playing Be4, rather than Ne4, see game Dyachkov v Ulibin 98 also mentioned in the book. (Of course it is an accident it is the only commented game in ChessBase in this line  Wink ). The idea I think is de-fang d5 by white, as in similar Queen's Indian positions.
Suprisingly I think Bf4 is one of white's better approaches, since I am a bit uncomfortable with weak e6 square, when trying to develop with d6, and nd7.

There has been a short debate on the London versus Iljin-Zjenevsky in another IZ thread, though White included c4 and Nc3.
My answer is obvious and confirmed in my games: f5, Nf6, e6, Be7, o-o, d6, Qe8, Bd8, Nc6 and e5. Sometimes this involves a correct pawn sacrifice. The very decent alternative is b6 (in stead of Qe8; Black might even leave the pawn on d7 yet), Bb7 and Ne4.
Even with the bishop on e7, Black can contemplate h6 followed by g5, as he has full control of the centre.
If Black plays energetically, White has to play precise just to maintain equality.

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

Best Dutch system against Bf4(London opening)

Hey all,

I am trying to adopt dutch in my opening repertiore and need some advice. What system of development would you recommend in dutch defense if white plays 1. d4 f5, 2. Bf4, 3.Nf3, 4. e3 etc... i.e. develops like queen pawn opening (London system?) usually without playing c4.

I am thinking that stone wall with d5 will not be the strongest? Maybe d6 would be the best with e7-e5 or e7-e6-e5 sometime in the future.  Is it better to put the black bishop on e7 or g7? What would be the best way to exploit the position of bishop on g4: maybe h6, then g5 and Bg7? And maybe even 0-0-0 for black? Any strategic and tactical ideas specific to this line?

Thanks in advance,
Anton.
