I believe they only sell the book in e-book form now.  Look at the e-book section on their website.

I know this is an old thread on an old book, but I've been away from tournament chess for more than five years and I am looking for thorough coverage of the Anti-Meran. (I am interested in the lines from the White perspective.) I thought this survey would be a good place to learn the modern theory after reading the relevant chapters in Reinaldo Vera's book, but I can't find this book new or used anywhere. I wonder why Chess Stars has removed this book from their selection while their QGA book is on its third edition. (From the reviews I've read, it appears to be an excellent book.) Any leads would be much appreciated.

I have the book and it is pretty dated, there have been tons of games since its publication. I don't know if they will do a second edition or not but I think it is better to wait for something new.

I believe that attention has now switched to quieter approaches with 7.b3/7.Bd3/7.Be2 because 7.g4 h6 8.Bd2 (I still think 8.h3 offers good chances of a slight edge although other sources disagree) 8...dc4 is such an effective equaliser for Black. 7...Bb4 8.Bd2 b6!? is another tough nut to crack.

What is black's response after 7. g4 h6 8. Rg1 ?

Also as far as I remember 7. Be2 was discarded due to 7. ... b6 and 7. b3 e5 does not promise White much.

I looked at your variation for a few minutes and I'm not sure it is so good for Black. No matter what I tried with White, I was ending up with an edge. Black's problem is that his king is sometimes in a bigger danger than White's one. Also White's bishop on the main diagonal is clearly more functional than Bh5. If White manages to build the battery Qd4-Bc3, he is fantastic. Of course a deeper analysis is needed, but too many lines are in White's favour which should be alarming to Black.

16...Qxd6 17.a4 0–0 18.Nb5 Qd7 19.Qd4 Kh8 20.b3+=
I do not pretend that all evaluations are correct, but at least some of them should withstand.

Oooops..there was a mistake in my last message...white can grab the pawn but after Bg4! black enjoys initiative and white can hardly retain the extra pawn. In fact, white have to play very carefully to maintain the balance. The best move is probably Nb5! and then black should probably play calm 0-0! The position is pretty much equal.

Thanks for reply. Black can play Bg4! with advantage so white cannot grap the pawn, atleast Junior 9 decided to decline the sac.

Best,

Congratulations! But I'm still failing to grasp your idea - 9.g5 Nd5 10.Bd2 N7b6 10.Bd5 cd5 11.de5 and 12.Rg1. If you think you really invented a valuable novelty, send me the game on my address and I'll find a place for it on our web page.
Besides, topical now is 9.Bd2 - see, even Dreev was converted for the cause! He was the principal defender of Black's side.

Semko,

Thanks for the great book. However, why you did not discuss the following variation in your most recent book:

Qc2 Bd6
g4 dc4
Bc4 e5
g5 Nd5
Bd2 N7b6 (?)

It must be a solid line as I was able to draw againts the super monster Junior 9 Smiley

My copy of sakaev's anti meran recently arrived. I have only had time to look at it casually for a week or so. But two points to note:

1. This book is extremely up to date. with games from the russian championship 04. e.g. it mentioned kasparov-svidler on 3. Nc3 dxc4, albeit without much analysis since this is a sideline. The book also includes some of the latest games in the 6. c5 line against the 4... a6 slav (including that stunning Sakaev-Sokolov game discussed in the other thread)

2. the authors are best at the 6. Qc2 main lines. i thought they explained the ideas behind 7. g4 very clearly (its really more a positional move, than an attacking move). There are also alot of pages on other continuations like 7. Be2/d3 or 7. b3 (haven't really looked at these yet though)

I like what i see so far. and i look forward to the forthcoming volume on the botvinnik/moscow Smiley

It is much more difficult to write FOR Black - it is White who has the initiative to choose.
Actually we designed the new opening series (Current theory and practice series) with the intention to cover openings objectively, reckoning with both sides - in distinction to our repertoire books. I'm really interested what book you would like to read, but please write me to my E-mail since that is beyond the forum's topic.

Maybe you could write comprehensive book on semi-slav with h6.
