Since starting this post I've given up the King's Indian, at least for the time being, but it would be nice if Black could still make 10...Nd7 work (especially if Dragonlord's idea really is better for White in the 10...b6 variation, for what it's worth I'm a little skeptical but am too lazy to look at it closely now).

As a sidenote I agree with Alumbrado that the old ...e5 lines don't appear to equalize but I had thought that the Panno variation was still a decent option.  If there's a debate on that here then perhaps that could be a topic for another thread here.

All in all the King's Indian seems pretty healthy to me with the Classical Bayonet still the most theoretical challenging (and ...Na6 remains unrefuted as well).  Does anything else really even come close?  Time will tell.

Hi,

I have been toying a bit with this position after 10. Nge2 and still prefer the somewhat more concrete 10...Nd7 over 10...b6 followed by 11...e6.

After 10...Nd7 11. Bf2 Nde5 12. Nf4 b6 13. Nfd5 e6 14. Nc7 as in the Gallagher-game black has 14...Nb4 15. Rd1 Rxd1 16. Kxd1 Rb8 = , with my mainline going 17. Bg3 Bb7 18. Kc1 Rd8 19. Be2 Nbd3 20. Bxd3  (20. Kc2 Nxc4 21. Bxd3 Ne3 22. Kd2 Nc4 =) 20...Nxd3 21. Kc2 Nb4 22. Kb3 Nc6 23. Kc2 Nb4 =.

Hello all!

Lets get the ball rolling on this variation.

Some say that after (1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 g6  3. Nc3 Bg7  4. e4 d6  5. f3 O-O  6.Be3 c5  7. dxc5 dxc5  8. Qxd8 Rxd8  9. Bxc5 Nc6  10. Nge2) 10... b6 is the best move. Well, after 11. Ba3 e6 there are three moves available on the Fritz theory cd.
One is 12. Rd1 Nd7 13.b3 Bb7 and here the continuation is 14.g3 which I believe is dubious.
What about 14.Nb5  ?  I believe white is better here.

Anybody with some fresh analysis of these lines?

"I've always had a huge soft spot for the line (1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3 Bg7 4.e4 d6 5.f3 0-0 6.Be3) 6...e5 7.d5 Nh5 8.Qd2 Qh4† 9.g3 Nxg3!? 10.Qf2 Nxf1 11.Qxh4 Nxe3.  I blame Andy Martin, who did a very good sales job in an old King's Indian repertoire book "

Zatso??? Was the game Cox-Martin, Catford, 1982 or so, mentioned at all, I wonder?

Quote:
I recently read a review somewhere about Ward's new book on the Sämisch that he recommended, after 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3 Bg7 4.e4 d6 5.f3 0-0 6.Be3 c5 7.dxc5 dxc5 8.Qxd8 Rxd8 9.Bxc5 Nc6 10.Nge2 Nd7 (Ward was quoted as saying that he thinks 10...b6 may be the critical continuation.  If I remember correctly.), 11.Bf2!  I think the idea is supposed to be 11...Nde5 12.Nf4 Nb4 13.Rd1!.  Anyone have any thoughts on this?  The move 11.Bf2 isn't mentioned by Gallagher in his recent KID repertoire book.

Time to re-visit this one.

So is 11.Bf2 really the end of the 10...Nd7 variation?.

I doubt that 10... Nd7 is that unplayable to not even be considered.  10... Nd7 is fine.

1. d4 Nf6
2. c4 g6
3. Nc3 Bg7
4. e4 d6
5. f3 O-O
6.Be3 c5
7. dxc5 dxc5
8. Qxd8 Rxd8
9. Bxc5 Nc6
10. Nge2 Nd7

I would like to draw your attention that in my previous post,  after  10....  Nd7 Black is still able to play 11... b6
10.... Nd7 does not enable White to have the better of it.  If White continues with the same idea as in the Gallagher game--

11. Bf2 b6
12. Nf4 (with idea of Nd5)  Nc5

(12... Bxc3+ 13. bxc3 Ba6 14. Nd5 Rac8 does not look bad either)

13. Nfd5 e6
14. Nc7 Rb8
15. Bh4 Rd7
16. Ne8 Nb4
17. Nxg7 Kxg7
18. Bg3 Ra8
19. Kf2 Since black plans Rd2 or Rd3 ) Ncd3+
20. Bxd3 Nxd3+

Black looks good.

11.Bf2! does indeed seem strong and casts doubt on 10...Nfd7. Gallagher was struggling in my opinion and was fortunate to save a draw, it is doubtful that he would repeat 10...Nfd7 again. Grin

Luckily for Black 10...b6 is fully adequate and he has nothing to fear, in fact white has to play very purposefully just to avoid being worse.

Conclusion: Samisch players looking for an easy risk free edge against 6...c5 will need to look elsewhere.

There is this other possibility:

1. d4 Nf6
2. c4 g6
3. Nc3 Bg7
4. e4 d6
5. f3 O-O
6.Be3 c5
7. dxc5 dxc5
8. Qxd8 Rxd8
9. Bxc5 Nc6
10. Nge2 Nd7
11. Bf2 Nde5
12. Nf4 b6
13. Be2 Ba6
14. Nb5 Nb4
15. O-O g5
16. Nd5 Bxb5
17. cxb5 Nxd5
18. exd5 Ng6

Back is OK

White has to demonstrate good reasons for NOT accepting that it is a drawn position after:

1. d4 Nf6
2. c4 g6
3. Nc3 Bg7
4. e4 d6
5. f3  O-O
6.Be3  c5
7. dxc5 dxc5
8. Qxd8 Rxd8
9. Bxc5  Nc6
10. Nge2  Nd7
11. Bf2  b6
12. Rd1   Bb7
13. Nd4  Nc5
14. Nxc6  Bxc6
15. Be2  Bxc3+
16. bxc3 Rxd1+
17. Kxd1 Rd8+
18.Kc1 Ba4
19. Bxc5 bxc5

Is there something wrong with Gallagher's treatment of 11. Bf2 Nde5 12. Nf4 b6?  I haven't looked at this but he did draw the game quoted in the earlier post by Teyko.

I will do my best. I believe Nb4 is a mistake though I will check it and post my analysis tonight. At the moment I am looking at 26.c4!? in the Dragon forum, I don't know, I like 26...a5 or even Qa6, but I don't know. I have to analyze this positions with my inexperienced mind and my trusty computer. But that damn thing just doesn't understand the openings I play. The King's Indian, the blackmar diemar and the dragon. It seems I am left to my own devices, but I will see what I can do.

I have no idea what black should play Embarrassed I have looked at 11...Nde5 12.Nf4 Nb4, but after 13.Rd1 Nc2+ 14.Ke2 I see no sensible way forward for black... Maybe black´s best choice is 12...Na5 Undecided what do you think?

I would really like the board to analyze the Gallagher game together I think we could piece together some interesting lines, here.
