Very good, dom!

Is there any way of converting that site, 'www.france-echecs.com', for English speaking Homo Sapiens ?

Not really,

12.Nb5 Qb8 (or 12..Qb6 more difficult to play than Qb8) 13.Qf3 Bd6 14.Qxd5 Bxh2+ 15.Kh1 a6

So after 11... Qd6, White's 12. Nb5 is not considered an annoyance.

Hello, 8arms...
I don't pick the second pawn when I play the line..I am not so hungry  Cool

If I may give an advice:  play cxd4 before Qb6 !  ... because of famous game Nimzowitsch-Salwe,Karlsbad 1911 and move7.dxc5!  (well, Qb6 is playable in fact with a5 as in Lowe-Kennedy, 1849).

Qb8 can played in one or two moves (with a step on d6 square).

With the step 11...Qd6, there is not the reply 12.Nxd5

One interesting move about 11...Qb8 is 12. Qf3 and I had a discussion with a ELO 2300 player about it. Basic idea is White threatens Nb5+Bf4.

I recorded 3 answers: A) 12...Bd6 B) 12...Nf6 C) 12...Bc6

About 12.Nxd5 (main line?) there are simple moves for White: 12...Bd6 (12..h5 an interesting idea given in www.france-echecs.com forum, forbidding a future Qg4 and ...not working because of the strong 13.Bd2!) 13.Qh5 or 13.Qg4

Ok Guys! inc. dom

Can Black get away nicking the second pawn in this line of the French Defence - in John Watson's 'Play The French (3rd edition)' he quotes '... that 10... Qxe5 is doing brilliantly theorectically but it is more difficult in practice than 10...a6'

For those who are unfamiliar with the sequence of moves, this is it :-

1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5. 3. e5 c5 4. c3 Nc6 5. Nf3 Qb6 6. Bd3 Bd7 7. 0-0 cxd4 8. cxd4 Nxd4 9. Nxd4 Qxd4 10. Nc3 Qxe5 (this is the second pawn I'm on about) 11. Re1 Qb8

Hardly no analysis is given in this book on this line and I normally play this queen retreat but get into a bit of bother.
